The Global Financial Crimes & Customer Protection (GFCCP) organization is responsible for detecting and preventing financial crimes and providing protections and remediation paths for PayPal’s customers. GFCCP must run efficient and effective programs across the board which require data-driven insights to drive world-class back-office strategies, processes, policies and/or systems and tools. Successful candidates will offer a strong technical foundation, deep analytical capabilities, and a collaborative working style. They will possess an innate intellectual curiosity and a desire to build a deep understanding of PayPal’s products and data ecosystem. Skills in problem solving, critical thinking and handling large volumes of data will be advantageous. The candidate will interact with global cross-functional teams to address complex business requirements. The successful candidate will have exceptional interpersonal skills, abilities to manage conflicting priorities to a defined timeline, strong project management and communication skills. :
Responsibilities: In this role, the individual will be part of the GFCCP data engineering team and have the following responsibilities (not an exhaustive list).

• Participating and collaborating with cross functional teams in the organization to understand the business requirements and to deliver solutions that can scale.
• Planning the execution of the project in an effective and efficient manner.
• Applying creativity and out of the box thinking.
• Proactively anticipating problems and appropriately communicating to the team and management in a timely manner.
• Being flexible and being able to support all functions of product life cycle when required.
• Adapting quickly and working in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to deliver with high quality from coarse grained requirements
• Be a Mentor for the junior members in the organization.
• Identify opportunities to simplify solutions and lead with an example to the team members.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s/Master’s in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience
• 6+ years of experience in the IT industry, experience in Data space is preferred.

• Technical Skills:
  • Working experience in MPP systems like Teradata and understanding of architecture/functioning of any distributed systems.
  • Strong SQL skills with experience/knowledge in the area of performance optimization.
  • Experience with data warehousing architecture and data modeling best practices.
  • Working knowledge on any ETL tool(s), scheduling tool(s) (preferably UC4/Airflow/Control-M) and related concepts.
  • Advanced Python/Shell scripting experience for file handling and automations.
  • Working knowledge of any cloud platform (AWS/GCP/Azure) (Knowledge of Google BigQuery and DataProc is a plus)
  • Familiarity with best practices of handling large volumes of data process and movement.
  • Knowledge and exposure to Hadoop ecosystem (especially Spark and Hive) is a plus

• Soft skills:
  • Strong analytical skills including the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Display one-team behavior while thinking end to end solutioning.
