Job Description



Role Overview
The role creates and modifies dashboards in PowerBI to meet agreed business requirements relating to project delivery. The role-holder will attend briefing sessions to understand the requirements, prototype them using screenshot mock-ups, spreadsheets, and initial PowerBI reports, and then refine them into published dashboards. The role-holder will perform unit-testing, submit code for system and user testing, fix any reported bugs, and update design and test documentation.
Key responsibilities
The team member will perform some or all of the following tasks, dependent on skill-set:

  • Create and maintain first-class PowerBI Dashboards, providing customers (including senior management) with a flexible platform to review the information they need for decision-making
  • Develop the front-end of dashboards in accordance with user requirements, using data from a data warehouse and liaising with Database Developers to agree how PowerBI measures are best implemented
  • Write ETL scripts to import data into the data warehouse and present it in a suitable form for the dashboards
  • Improve the usability and performance of existing reports
  • Test own work and others\xe2\x80\x99, perform peer reviews
  • Follow and improve the team\xe2\x80\x99s development standards, including use of the Jira tool
  • Work with the existing team, End Users, System-level DBAs, Sys Admins and QA teams when appropriate
  • Create and update User Guides, Release documentation, process documentation and workflows
  • Identify process inefficiencies, inconsistencies and problems; escalate for attention and participate in problem resolution


Candidate Profile / Key Skills
Essential Skills and experience
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on PowerBI development and 2+ years of BI and dashboards
  • Minimum 2 years of SQL and SSRS
  • Good experience of query-writing, using SQL and/or Data Analysis Expressions (DAX)
  • Sound understanding of data flow models (from DWH though to UI)
  • Development of advanced dashboards and interactive report content
  • Understanding of performance-optimized SQL code design and Power BI models
  • Experience with Row Level Security on Power BI reports
  • Knowledge of requirements analysis, specification, testing and documentation
  • Understanding of basic principles of data, statistics and mathematics
  • Understanding of databases and data modelling
  • Experience of ETL
  • Experience with a source repository such as Bitbucket
  • Critical thinker, creative problem solver, strong analytical skills, ability to identify patterns in data
  • Good degree in a numerate subject (e.g. Statistics / Mathematics / Physics / Engineering / Software Engineering)
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
