This role within the Books Research Publishing group supports Editorial with contracting, rights securement, ethics and integrity of the content delivered by our authors and editors with a focus on a best-in-class author experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide valuable support to Editorial in the execution of business policies, process and guidance.
  • Ensure that Springer Nature is able to secure the rights it requires for all current and possible future uses of its content.
  • Establish a knowledge base in Editorial to understand all content rights secured by Springer Nature so they can negotiate contracts efficiently and swiftly
  • Act as a point of contact for contract and permissions related queries and liaison with Editorial Rights for queries that require escalation.
  • Support Editorial in communication with external parties such as Rights Holders, Authors, Editors, Societies, Institutions, etc. to explain our contractual business models and policies.
  • Work with the Policy Manager to collate changes in Editorial policies and practice, and liaise with the relevant departments for implementation of such changes across the Books business as required.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of best practice as defined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) of a wide range of research integrity and publication ethics issues.
  • Evaluate and support with complex issues related to research and publication ethics and misconduct and determine best practice actions to resolve such issues in collaboration with the Springer Nature Research Integrity group as needed.
  • Collaborate with operational development around contracting, rights, integrity and ethics checking.


Tasks
  • Build close relationships and act as primary interface with Editorial, Production, Research Integrity Group, Editorial Rights to ensure understanding of Springer Nature required rights, policies, compliance, integrity and ethics issues.
  • Regular meetings with key departments to share experience and refine processes in order to adapt to market changes and develop best practice on new developments, updates, Q&A sessions, etc.
  • Participate in and support Rights and Integrity related workflow transformation, standardization and improvement programmes by providing input and managing implementation within Editorial while developing clear guidelines re. workflows, product related needs etc.
  • Support with drafting of documentation of internal and external instructions, guidelines, tutorials in collaboration of the relevant departments responsible for those.
  • Coordinate the Rights and Integrity Champions from various departments in their support to resolve queries.
  • Support with training new members of Editorial and updates in around Rights and Integrity topics.


Experience, skills and qualifications
  • Experience working within a publishing environment
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with the ability to work on a specified list of priorities with speed and accuracy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to assimilate often complex information and relay it to others in a clear and accessible manner
  • Strong organisational skills to deal with multiple issues at one time, working with tight deadlines
  • Team player, able to work with Springer Nature in-house staff and nurture relationships
  • A thorough understanding of our Books publication process, and workflows that underpin the acquisition-to-publication journey for Books and an advanced knowledge of relevant internal systems and interfaces
  • Excellent and motivational capabilities in order to engage Editorial to take them on the journey and to develop their skills
  • A collaborative, team-oriented mindset and approach demonstrated by previous involvement and assignments and the ability to work successfully in a complex matrix environment
  • Proactive, solution-driven with hands-on mentality and strong sense for prioritization and continuous improvement

Fluent written and oral communication in English is mandatory, German a plus.
