Continental Chef - Commi II / Commis II (Kitchen Assistant/Cook)
This position is a junior cook focused on
Continental cuisine
(European/Western style food like pastas, salads, grills, sauces, soups etc.), working under the direction of senior cooks or chefs to prepare and assemble dishes and support kitchen operations.
Typical (JD)Core Responsibilities
Food Preparation & Cooking
Assist in preparing ingredients and cooking Continental dishes such as pastas, salads, sauces, grills, sandwiches, soups and sides.
Follow standard recipes, portion sizes, plating/presentation guidelines and quality standards set by senior chefs.
Kitchen Workstation Support
Mise en place -- chopping, slicing, measuring, marinating and prepping sauces.
Setup and breakdown of workstations before and after service.
Assist Commi I and other senior cooking staff in daily tasks.
Cleanliness & Safety
Maintain hygiene and sanitation at station and in kitchen spaces.
Comply with food safety and health standards.
Inventory & Kitchen Operations
Help monitor ingredient stocks, rotate supplies, and report low stock.
Use standard kitchen equipment properly.
Teamwork
Work well with other kitchen staff and service teams.
Note: Senior establishments may also expect some assistance in menu ideas, minor supervision of juniors, basic quality checks and presentation refinement.
Qualifications & Skills
Education:
Often 10th pass / 12th pass; a diploma in culinary arts or hospitality is advantageous.
Experience:
Typically
1-3+ years
in a kitchen environment (varies by employer).
Skills:
Basic knowledge of Continental cooking and kitchen practices.
Ability to follow recipes and work under supervision.
Hygiene, teamwork and sometimes basic English.
