A computer operator monitors and manages computer systems and networks, performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and providing technical support to users. Key responsibilities include running operations according to schedules, installing updates, performing data backups, and ensuring system security.
Core responsibilities

• Monitoring systems: Oversee computer systems, networks, and peripheral equipment to ensure they are running efficiently and securely.
• Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve hardware malfunctions, software bugs, and network connectivity problems.
• Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks such as system backups, software updates, and hardware cleaning.

• Technical support: Provide assistance to users, answer questions, and resolve computer-related issues.

• Operations management: Initiate programs by inputting commands and managing daily jobs according to production schedules.

• Hardware and software management: Install, configure, and maintain computer equipment, peripherals, and software.

Additional duties

• Manage data storage and organize files to ensure they are accessible and secure.
• Implement security protocols and procedures to protect sensitive information.
• Generate reports from batch jobs and maintain accurate logs of system performance and support requests.
• Collaborate with other IT team members on system updates and policy development.
• Train users on how to effectively and securely use computer systems and software.
