Main purpose of job:

We are looking for a dynamic communications professional to design, drive and deliver communications for the British Deputy High Commission (BDHC) in Bengaluru. As the Communications Officer based in Bengaluru, you will assist in promoting the work of the Deputy High Commission in Karnataka and Kerala, and within the UK in India network. You will be responsible for digital content production and publishing, including video editing and managing social media.

We reserve the right to review, revise or amend the roles and responsibilities from time to time reflecting the changing needs of business.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

Digital: 40%

  • Responsible for social content creation reflecting the work and aspirations of @UKinBengaluru.
  • Develop and own the BDHC Bengaluru\'s strategy for increasing audience engagement across social media platforms.
  • Produce content to ensure Kannada and Malayalam-speaking audiences are able to engage with the work done by the British High Commission network in India and build brand awareness.
Internal Communications: 40%
  • Produce and coordinate reporting and content for internal bulletins and other communication channels in the network.
  • Lead on the branding and design of events organised by the British Deputy High Commission, Bengaluru.
  • Serve as the in-house digital communications expert, including through the production social media usage guidelines and best practice.
  • Train colleagues working across the BDHC in order to mainstream communications activity and ensure all staff support the creation of content.
External Communications: 20%
  • Work closely with colleagues across the UK network of posts in India to maximise our reach by actively looking out for external opportunities and ensure regional campaigns are closely coordinated.
  • Assist in organising press briefings, interviews and other press opportunities for ministerial and high-level officials.
  • Deliver a process for evaluating impact of media and communication opportunities to inform future planning and to benchmark the performance and show progress made on agreed objectives.
Resources managed (staff and expenditure):
  • Manage Press and Communication budget for the post.
  • Job holder will not be managing any staff member.
Language and other requirements:

Level of language required:

Fluent English and Kannada (written and spoken)

Malayalam - Basic written and speaking skills desirable.

Other requirements:

Shortlisted candidates will be tested for their social media, photo/video editing and written skills.

If selected for the interview, you will have to demonstrate your social media skills by drafting a Twitter campaign (the theme, sample photos and script will be provided) also demonstrate your photo and video editing skills using Canva & other editing tools. (sample photos and video will be provided)

Working patterns:

Standard working hours are Monday to Thursday (8.30 am to 4.30 pm) and Friday (8.30 am to 1.30 pm).

Occasional events may require evening work (advance notice will be given and time off in lieu allowed).

Occasional national travel may be required.

  • Three to five years of work experience in a social media marketing or multimedia production role or similar role PR/Communications role in a professional PR/Communications team/institution.
  • Strong knowledge of desktop publishing and multimedia editing software including Canva, Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Final Cut Pro.
  • Proven expertise in design, creation and deployment of digital content across digital/social media platforms.
  • Fluency/expertise in use of cross-digital skills (skill in still photography, videography and graphic designing for use on digital platforms and skill in loading content to/deploying the full range of social media platforms/channels - Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook.
  • Proven record in delivering PR/Communication/Digital campaigns.

For British High Commission candidates, the Country Based Staff BHC Terms & Conditions will apply.

For other than BHC Candidates, salary will be all-inclusive of INR 68,508 per month together with a 12% Provident Fund and 6% Superannuation.

Additionally, the BHC offers a great benefits package that includes annual domiciliary medical cover, plus a Group Hospitalisation Scheme with INR 500,000 floater cover for your immediate family.

No relocation or any other related costs or assistance will be provided.

Please note - BHC does not deduct tax at source and employees are required to ensure that any requirements of local income-tax law are complied with in full. Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, eg. some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
