Job Description

The Commis Chef is a junior position responsible for assisting the Head Chef or Chef de Partie with all aspects of food preparation, production, and kitchen maintenance. This role is a vital step in learning the craft of professional cooking and requires a dedicated, hardworking individual with a passion for food and high standards of hygiene.

Key Responsibilities



1. Food Preparation (Mise en Place)



Ingredient Prep:

Accurately measure, weigh, and prepare all raw ingredients (washing, peeling, chopping, slicing, etc.) for menu items, including vegetables, fruits, and pre-made fillings.

Basic Cooking:

Prepare simple dishes and components such as basic sauces, soups, simple salads, dressings, and garnishes under the guidance of a senior chef.

Recipe Adherence:

Follow all recipes and preparation standards precisely to ensure consistency in every dish and minimize food waste.

Plating:

Assist the senior chef in the final plating and presentation of food items, ensuring they meet the cafe's visual standards.

2. Kitchen Operations & Support



Senior Chef Assistance:

Provide proactive support to the Chef de Partie or Head Chef across various kitchen sections as required, assisting with the smooth flow of service.

Inventory & Stock:

Assist with receiving, checking, and properly storing all deliveries. Ensure strict

stock rotation (FIFO - First In, First Out)

to minimize spoilage and maintain freshness. Monitor stock levels and communicate any low or depleted inventory to the senior chef.

Equipment Care:

Set up and break down workstations daily, ensuring all tools, equipment, and utensils are clean and properly maintained.

3. Health, Safety, and Hygiene



Workstation Cleanliness:

Maintain impeccable cleanliness and organization of all kitchen areas, especially assigned workstations, during and after service.

Sanitation:

Conduct routine cleaning duties, including washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and disposing of waste correctly.

Food Safety:

Adhere strictly to all local and company food hygiene, health, and safety standards (e.g., temperature checks, proper food labeling, dating, and storage).

Personal Hygiene:

Maintain a high standard of personal hygiene and present a clean and tidy appearance in the required uniform.

Pay: ?15,000.00 - ?22,000.00 per month
