Department Overview:

Business Support Management (BSM) is a dedicated team of specialists that the Corporate and Investment Bank (CIB) leverages to increase control, reduce bureaucracy, and act as a liaison with Corporate groups. As business connectivity is essential in this role, team-members are aligned and co-located with the business or function they are assigned to support. BSM is part of the wider CIB Finance, Business Management, and Controls organization.

The team has three primary functions: Expense Management, Change Management, and Assistant Management.

  • Expense management is responsible for controlling and monitoring discretionary expenses, ensuring cost effectiveness and increasing productivity. They are accountable for oversight and training of Firmwide T&E policy and the CIB Expense Process and Exception Procedures in partnership with the Corporate Global Supplier Services Team, Compliance, Anti-Corruption, HR.
  • Change management is responsible for logistics and control focused activity in support of CIB. This includes creating, enforcing, and maintaining a dynamic control environment, mitigating risk in business processes. Primary responsibilities include: Management of on/off boarding process (verification checks, provision of technology including hardware, applications, market data) and Implementation of controls including consecutive leave, physical access management, business resiliency support, centralized policy & procedure
  • Assistant Management is responsible for oversight and management of administrative assistants.
Role and Responsibilities:

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced team manager to become head of our BSM team in Mumbai, overseeing a team of over 100 headcount. Working within a global leadership group, the role will report into the Global Head of Business Support Management, and have accountability into global functional leads in BSM. This role will locally lead the offshore teams that are responsible for Expense Management, Change Management/Reporting, along with a newly established role that will provide oversight of administrative assistants in-country. Functional management of each stripe is managed onshore as part of a global BSM structure. This role will be responsible for recruiting and retention of our staff, compensation planning, training, talent and succession planning, people and diversity initiatives, along with real estate planning and any other ad-hoc organizational items required across the team in India. This person will also represent BSM in the wider Research & Analytics organization in JPMC India.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate success in leading productive and motivated teams as well as possessing highly effective communication and relationship building skills across all levels. Primary responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Understanding of various onshore support requirements and developing strong and continued relationships with key stakeholders
  • Training and development
  • Effective and consistent communication across teams / regions
  • Develop and implement meaningful performance metrics
  • Motivate individual and team performance
  • Coach and mentor team; develop team leaders where appropriate
  • Enforce a dynamic control/ compliance environment and continually mitigate risk in business processes
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders
  • Manage relationships with internal business partners across multiple LOB's (globally)
  • Provide thought leadership in strategic direction to improve productivity and leverage to the business
  • Build consensus around key initiatives
  • Advocate on behalf of BSM India both locally and globally
  • Lead the performance management process for direct reports and the wider team
  • Participate in managing a consistent compensation and evaluation process
Key Skills / Candidate Profile:
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in a similar role, preferably one who has already managed large operational teams in India.
  • A clear thinker who can demonstrate logical outcomes with strong problem solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Customer Service / Client facing experience
  • Ability to work with and manage change
  • Ability to demonstrate the utmost discretion and professionalism
  • Ability to build strong relationships, with good listening and influencing skills
  • A self-starter who consistently meets deliverables
  • Prior experience in an Investment Bank, Financial Institution or Professional services environment is preferred
