Job Description

A Chief Engineer manages engineering teams, overseeing projects from conception to completion, ensuring they meet budget, time, and quality standards, while also handling strategic planning, resource allocation, technical guidance, and staff development, with specific duties varying by industry (e.g., maritime, facilities, construction) but generally focusing on leading operations, maintenance, and innovation. Key responsibilities include project delegation, cost estimation, quality control, vendor negotiation, and reporting to upper management, alongside fostering team growth and ensuring safety compliance. Core Duties & Responsibilities:

Leadership & Management:

Lead, train, mentor, and supervise engineering teams. Delegate tasks and resolve team conflicts. Communicate company goals and technical vision.

Project Oversight:

Supervise all project phases, from planning to completion. Approve designs, budgets, and technical plans. Estimate costs (labor, materials, time) and ensure budget adherence.

Technical & Operational Excellence:

Ensure safe, efficient operation and maintenance of machinery/systems. Perform quality control checks and implement improvements. Stay updated on industry advancements.

Administrative & Compliance:

Prepare reports for directors/management. Manage documentation (manuals, logs, records). Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards (e.g., IMO, SOLAS).

Strategic Planning:

Develop long-term technical strategies and resource plans. Collaborate with clients, vendors, and other departments.
