The Chief Accountant is responsible for overseeing the overall accounting function of the organization, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with statutory regulations, and effective financial controls. The role involves managing the accounting team, preparing financial statements, monitoring budgets, and supporting management with timely financial insights for decision-making. In the hospitality industry, the Chief Accountant also ensures adherence to internal controls, audit requirements, and cost management standards.
Key Job Responsibilities - Chief Accountant
Financial Management & Reporting
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Ensure accuracy of general ledger, trial balance, and final accounts.
Monitor cash flow, working capital, and fund utilization.
Provide financial analysis and reports to management.
Accounting Operations
Oversee day-to-day accounting activities including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
Ensure proper accounting of revenue, expenses, assets, and liabilities.
Maintain fixed asset register and depreciation schedules.
Budgeting & Cost Control
Prepare annual budgets and forecasts in coordination with department heads.
Monitor budget performance and analyze variances.
Implement cost control measures to improve profitability.
Compliance & Statutory Requirements
Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations (GST, Income Tax, TDS, PF, ESI, etc.).
Coordinate with auditors for internal and statutory audits.
Ensure timely filing of returns and statutory payments.
Internal Controls & Audits
Establish and maintain effective internal control systems.
Review and strengthen accounting policies and procedures.
Address audit observations and ensure corrective actions.
Team Management
Lead, train, and supervise the accounting team.
Allocate tasks and review team performance.
Ensure adherence to timelines and accuracy standards.
Liaison & Coordination
Coordinate with banks, auditors, tax consultants, and regulatory authorities.
Support management in financial planning and strategic decisions.
Assist in negotiations with vendors and financial institutions.
Experience & Qualifications
At least
3-5 years in a senior accounting or managerial role
.
Strong knowledge of accounting standards, taxation, and statutory compliance.
Proficiency in accounting software and MS Excel.
CA / CMA / MBA (Finance) or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
