Working with VMFS Team you will be part of team building next generation distributed file system for a virtualization platform. You will be engaged in designing, implementation, problem-solving and troubleshooting of building scalable file system as an infrastructure component for both on-premises and cloud solution. Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing Within your first 6 months You will be expected to have good understanding of architecture and design of VMFS (Virtual Machine File System) and overall knowledge of storage stack and IO path of VMware vSphere product. You will participate in design discussions and feature development activities for the next version of VMFS. You will be making code changes of low quantum to understand overall development process. After 6 months+ You will be responsible for designing and delivering solutions for various VMFS requirements. You will be responsible for addressing feature enhancement or issue resolution in VMFS as part of bigger feature or ask by end customer. You will be regularly evaluated on the quality of the product you create and the code you write to ensure continued advancement of your technical skills in an environment that looks to expand them. As a member of the VMFS team you are expected to interact with other engineering groups and groups outside of engineering in helping analyze and prioritize product features. You are expected to interact with support team, partners and with key VMware technical leaders to influence and execute next generation VMFS. What type of work will you be doing What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis Your regular activities may be modified to suit your professional strengths, however you can expect a variety of the following assignments: Design and develop distributed file system components to support for higher scale and performance. Work on delivering features that help VMFS file system ideal for hyperscaler and cloud platforms. Resolve issues or work on enhancement related to file system snapshot technology. Resolving complex software defects, including reproducing problems based on written descriptions, applying relevant techniques to isolate root cause, tracing through large source code bases, and writing long-term fixes as well as short-term workarounds. Work with VMware kernel, core storage and management teams to ensure that features work seamlessly end-to-end and maintain product extensibility and compatibility What is the leadership like for this role What is the structure and culture of the team like This position reports to the Manager of the VMFS File system Team, an experienced software engineer and manager who has many years of engineering and management experience. The team consists of highly competent senior engineers, kernel, and file system experts. We focus on iterative development, both of software and our software development practices. You will be part of the File system team that runs on majority of the vSphere installation around the globe. Where is this role located Flexible: The role is considered flexible and will be a mix of working from a local VMware office in Bangalore, India and remote depending on your preferences and the arrangements determined with your future manager.
