Where do you fit in?

Reporting directly to Operations Manager you will be the part of the e2e R&A team supporting the business. This role is focused on the growing EES portfolio and is accountable for driving process excellence, supporting Planning, Appraisal and Reporting (including some aspects of Legal Entity Controlling and reporting and planning on entity level) activities for business, seamlessly interfacing across SBO, FiB and business to ensure quality outcomes, applying a strong risk/value focus in everything you do. The role also covers management information and deliver planning, appraisal & reporting scope, together with Senior Financial Controller PAR EES, as well as reporting to Group results of legal entities in your scope. Next to this, you will be an integral part of the wider team and play a critical role in implementing the broader R&A agenda, including identifying and implementing improvement initiatives and sharing best practice and learnings across the organization.

What's the role?

The role holder will have accountability for R&A deliverables for EES but will also be expected to contribute to wider team agenda. Scope includes (but is not limited to):

  • Ensuring business activities are conducted in line with Shell frameworks and policies, as well as with applicable Joint Venture Agreements and local legislation including transfer pricing.
  • For assigned part of the portfolio: responsibility for financial reporting, actuals submissions, complete the Month & Quarterly close processes, including MJE, General Ledger, Group Reporting, preparation of financial statements for submission, all BSR requirements in blackline, analyzing performance and challenging where appropriate (e.g. burn rates, one-offs), Government reporting & Partner reporting.
  • For assigned part of the portfolio: support creating monthly/Q MI, create fit for purpose reporting packs including commentaries and deliver to stakeholders. Provide correct, reliable and meaningful analysis of financial data to enable value adding MI and understanding of key cost drivers impact, reasonable variance analysis and interventions, respond to ad-hoc queries. Engage with business leaders and FMs to lead design and setup of MI using touchless MI solutions (PowerBI).
  • Support the Latest estimate exercise on a quarterly basis and OP annual process and consolidate submissions in line with reporting requirements set out. Challenge submissions for cost effectiveness and run rates against business deliverables and objectives. Support QPA preparation and prepare inputs to the financial performance assessment process.
  • Execute financial controls, ensuring operational and design effectiveness of the controls within areas of responsibility
  • Review investment proposals and agreements, translate complexity into clear accounting notes
  • Potentially play a role of Legal Entity Controller and an oversight role for companies in scope.
  • Costs accuracy - ensure that costs allocated to particular project are captured in the right place; cost reclasses/ billing instruction as needed/ month-end accruals. Ensure regular budget control, including actuals vs plan, forecast/latest estimates updates, treats & opportunities, time writing analysis.
  • Ensuring 'just do it' basic requirements are fulfilled (e.g. FAST tool, data mgmt.; MRD support - Cost Centre, Project codes, etc. creation for EES projects.)
  • Time Writing support - manage & follow up time writing compliance of EES staffs, to deliver no/minimum missing time writing at the end of month.
  • Actively contribute to further definition and embedding of improvement agenda, through rationalization, standardization and digitalization and actively share learnings
  • Build trust and confidence in cooperation within Finance Operations
  • Exceptionally strong team-working across the process area is essential
  • Necessity to constantly update knowledge within finance
What we need from you?
  • Strong accounting skill set, exposure to GFRM/IFRS.
  • Strong reporting skills and experience with use of reporting tools (SAP, S4H). Excellent excel skills.
  • Understanding of the flow of data from the various systems along with the accounting entries that are generated and able to quickly identify and correct potential errors in a timely manner
  • Ability to work in a dynamically changing and demanding environment, ability to quickly learn and adopt to new requirements and tasks
  • Ability to remain resilient under time pressure and independently prioritise multiple competing priorities whilst maintaining appropriate attention to detail
  • Strong communication and business partnering skills to be capable of developing effective relationships with stakeholders and business partners. Ability to cut through complexity and articulate clear concise messages bringing edge to conversations where necessary
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and have a curious mindset ensuring upfront clarity and alignment on requirements and way forward with relevant stakeholders. Openness to embrace change.

  • Excellent written and spoken business level in English
  • 6+ years of experience in Finance (preferably financial analysis, planning and management reporting areas)
