What is Business Analyst - Investment Accounting responsible for?

  • The role is in an Alternative Investment Group Function whose responsibility is to support the various client facing groups of Fiduciary Trust Company International (\xe2\x80\x9cThe Firm\xe2\x80\x9d). The Firm is a 100% owned subsidiary of Franklin Resources Inc. It provides Wealth Management, Custody and Trust services to High-Net-Worth Clients. The job involves supporting the various Client facing functions of Fiduciary i.e. Investment Management, Wealth Advisory, Strategic Advisory Group, Relationship Management Group, Business Development, Custody, Taxation and Trust Groups. This role requires an analytical mind, eye for detail, and solutions mindset. The candidate will actively participate in and lead efforts to expand or strengthen the department\xe2\x80\x99s capabilities and strictly adhere to the policies and procedures implemented for administering Alternative Assets in an effort to mitigate risk for clients and The Firm. He / She will also ensure timely and accurate output and ongoing accounts compliance with respective investment guidelines, regulatory guidelines, and Fiduciary\xe2\x80\x99s internal controls. He/She will be responsible for compliance to the Alternative Asset teams policies and procedures and suggest process improvements and participate in their implementation. Additionally, the position will involve oversight of Alternative Asset administration, the various forms of data maintenance specific to Alternative Asset status tracking, correspondence, valuations, pricing, data repositories and other detailed analysis. As needs dictate, may be required to work long hours and on special projects and assignments. He/She should be prepared to work night shifts.


What are the ongoing responsibilities of a Business Analyst - Investment Accounting?

Reporting, data maintenance and Alternative Asset Subject Matter Expertise:

  • Track and process activities relating to Hedge and Private Equity investments including Capital Calls, Distributions, Subscriptions, Redemptions, and Market Value updates in accordance with SLAs.

  • Develop new procedure documentation in support of new process, products or system enhancements for the administration of Alterative Assets.

  • Coordinate recommended process changes and enhancements including test plans to ensure successful implementation.

  • Prepare Alternative Asset reports for different Client facing groups within Fiduciary.

  • Develop and produce routine and non-routine reports of various complexity.

  • Interpret agreements and reports, provide analytical commentary and recommendations for change.

  • Act as business unit liaison with other business units, Internal Audit and external parties.

  • Administration of the department\xe2\x80\x99s virtual communication and information repository.

  • Track and send notifications to the Front Office regarding activities required for the accurate administration of Alternative Assets, including but not limited to Hedge and Private Equity funds.

  • Validate the distribution and receipt of various Alternative Asset payments.

  • Create transactions to be routed to the Front Office for approval.

  • Oversee and coordinate activities of the various Alternative Asset vendors.

  • Create and send annual Alternative Asset valuation letters to Investment Advisers

  • for Directed Trust Accounts.

  • Prepare and maintain accurate Alternative Asset Checklists.

  • Preparation of reporting to Management and various committees.

  • Gather comprehensive information to be used in problem identification and resolution.

  • Analyze data and provide meaningful Alternative Asset reports to internal stakeholders.


What ideal qualifications, skills & experience would help someone to be Successful?

  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in business administration, Accounting, Finance or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Financial Services experience preferred especially in Wealth Management or Alterative Asset field.

  • 4-7 years of related experience.

  • Previous experience in operations and MIS in a Wealth Management Firm would be an added advantage.

  • Good knowledge of business desktop applications (i.e.: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access & Project, Windows, Visio, etc.) required.

  • Word: Mail Merge, Index and Tables.

  • Excel: Formulas, Functions, Pivot Tables, & Graphs.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with persons contacted while performing assigned duties.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong attention to details.

  • Look to providing solutions.

  • Ability to adhere/respond to established time frames and schedules.

  • Ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced, team environment.

  • Ability to work under pressure.

  • Ability to maintain updated knowledge of procedures, products, and activities of assigned area.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment consistent with department guidelines.
