Key responsibilities
Splicing and repairing:
Joining conveyor belt ends using hot and cold vulcanization, or mechanical fasteners, to repair damage and create continuous belts.
Maintenance:
Performing preventive and breakdown maintenance on conveyor systems, including alignment, tensioning, and lubrication, to ensure smooth operation.
Inspection and monitoring:
Regularly inspecting belt conditions, joints, and idlers to identify and report wear, cuts, or other damages.
Operation of equipment:
Safely operating specialized equipment like vulcanizing presses, belt cutters, and grinders.
Record keeping:
Maintaining accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs performed, and the condition of belts and joints.
Safety compliance:
Adhering to all safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, while performing maintenance tasks.
Support and collaboration:
Assisting other maintenance personnel and supporting overall plant maintenance as needed.
Qualifications
Education:
ITI or Diploma in Mechanical or a relevant trade.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of experience, preferably in the steel, sponge iron, cement, or mining industry.
Skills:
Proficiency in conveyor belt splicing techniques (hot, cold, steel cord), basic mechanical skills, and the ability to use hand and power tools.
Other:
A strong commitment to safety is essential. The ability to work effectively in a team environment is also important.
