The Assistant Cook supports the Head Cook/Chef in preparing, cooking, and presenting meals while maintaining high standards of hygiene, safety, and food quality. The role involves assisting with ingredient preparation, ensuring kitchen cleanliness, and following established recipes and procedures to deliver consistent food service.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in food preparation (cutting, chopping, marinating, mixing, etc.) as directed by the Head Cook/Chef.
Help in cooking and plating dishes according to recipes, portion control, and presentation standards.
Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen area, utensils, and equipment.
Store food items properly and ensure compliance with food safety standards.
Monitor stock levels of ingredients and notify the supervisor when replenishment is required.
Support in receiving and checking food deliveries for quality and quantity.
Follow kitchen safety guidelines and report any equipment faults or hazards immediately.
Assist in minimizing food wastage through proper preparation and storage methods.
Work collaboratively with the kitchen team to ensure timely meal service.
Requirements:
Previous experience in a kitchen or culinary setting preferred (entry-level candidates can be trained).
Basic knowledge of food preparation and kitchen equipment.
Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision.
Good personal hygiene and understanding of food safety standards.
Physical stamina to stand for long hours and handle kitchen duties.
Team player with good communication skills.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred).
Culinary training or certification is an added advantage.
