Engineering is responsible for scaling, building, deploying websites that serve over 500 million users globally. The global engineering team includes Brand Engineering, Platform Engineering and Core Engineering. About Client Platforms and Platform Engineering The Cond Nast Platform Engineering team is responsible for innovating on our core platforms that our Brands build their web site and application experiences on top of. This includes utilizing the latest technologies for building dynamic and immersive experiences. Our client platforms specifically support the diverse client technologies that underpin our experiences, including desktop browser, responsive mobile, AMP, and native mobile. We are also increasingly looking at new clients, such as OTT and audio podcasts, and how we can build an integrated holistic experience for our readers. The Role Cond Nast is looking for an associate principal engineer to join and help us design and build the next generation of our client technology stack. This role has two main functions: As part of the Principal Engineering team, work collaboratively with other team members to define our future state architecture around our client experiences, including the foundational tech stack, our design system that governs the user experience, and how our data flows through the client and back into our core systems for analysis. Work with Product and Engineering Teams to help them define the architecture of new features they are looking to build into their clients in a way that aligns with our future state architecture. You will be a key contributor to our long-term strategies, both in terms of our technical architectures as well as our engineering culture. At the same time, we need someone who can balance those long-term strategic goals with short-term delivery deadlines to help define solutions for other Engineering teams. You will work with our Product and Engineering teams to define the roadmaps and design the technical solutions for new features that will reach millions of users every month. You will be seen as a technical leader for those teams. This role will also be part of the Principal Engineering team, which is focused on defining the right future state architectures and technologies for our organization. While each member of the Principal Engineering team has a particular focus, everyone participates in designing the best solutions for the company, and improving the engineering culture of all our engineering teams. You will also be working alongside international colleagues across the US, Europe, India, and East Asia. We strongly emphasize cross-functional working through partnering directly with Product, Data, Design, UX and Delivery. We work with engineers across time zones & locations (Oncall - teams are responsible for their own apps) Role responsibilities: Help define our next-generation client architecture, including our web application stack, native mobile, and other consumer-facing clients * Subject matter expertise in Conde Nast technology stack, other developers will look to you as an authority on how to utilize our technologies * Collaborate with Product, Business, Architecture, and Data team stakeholders to design the appropriate solution for our needs Lead projects from ideation to execution to maintenance Mentor other engineers in engineering best practices, including architecture and design patterns Collaborate with the broader engineering group on new ideas or improving existing ones Identify and improve code and usability performance issues Participate in design and code reviews Helping us grow and expand our engineering teams About you: Bachelor\'s degree in CS or related experience Excellent written and verbal English communication skills Experience working with designing and deploying production-grade GraphQL APIs In-depth knowledge of AWS Cloud infrastructure Strong data modeling skills (knowledge of Domain-driven Design preferred) Strong analytical and problem solving skills Strong sense of building products for other application engineers and experience building platforms for other teams Seen technical projects throughout the entire development lifecycle, from ideation through execution and maintenance Expert level fluency in at least 1 programing language Experience with event sourcing paradigms and patterns Eager to learn about new technologies and implementing these ideas in a production environment
