The Research & Technology team in Bangalore has an immediate opening for an Associate Materials and Processes Engineer - Metallic Materials to support the Chemical Technologies team which is part of Materials & Manufacturing Technology Integration team. Primary responsibilities: In this position,

  • Primary responsibilities include selection of different test methods, characterization techniques and interpret the test data using various analytical techniques.
  • Hands on experience in following materials testing methods:
    • Hardness Analysis
    • Microstructure analysis
    • Surface treatment analysis (Organic and inorganic Coatings/Finishes)
    • Elemental analysis using various methods
    • Mechanical testing
  • Highly Experienced in writing material analysis reports
  • Lead and Mentor the young engineers
  • Benchmark competitive products and identify design alternatives.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams to develop and execute materials characterization and investigation plans.
  • Procure analytical equipment as and when needed
  • Analysis of Chemical, mechanical, physical, and metallurgical properties of aerospace grade metallic materials and understand their interactions with each other.
  • Communication of results and scientific interpretation is expected through preparation of professional technical reports and presentations.
  • Manage small to medium projects that require advanced knowledge of materials characterization instruments.
  • Review the material analysis reports.
  • Providing inputs for periodic updates and reviews in the form of progress reports.
  • Be able to work in a team environment and provide expertise to the team.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Typical Education & Experience:
  • Engineering Bachelor Or Master\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Material Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar appropriate degrees with 5 to 8 years of relevant Work Experience
  • Proven track record in technical report writing- integrate the material analysis report with interpreting the test data and concluding the material and processes.
  • Experience with a variety of metallic materials testing and characterization methods is required.
  • Diverse knowledge of aerospace grade materials and their processing is required
  • Knowledge on industry (ASTM, ISO and Boeing) materials testing procedures is required.
  • Knowledge on heat treatment processes and process standards
  • Familiarity with industry specifications for steel, Aluminum, copper and other metallic materials.
  • Hands-on experience with at least several of the capabilities listed below in a professional environment is required.
    • Operating and maintaining analytical instruments including but not limited to Rockwell & Vickers hardness analysis
    • Elemental analysis methods \xe2\x80\x93 Carbon-Sulphur analysis, ICP-OES, SEM-EDS and XRF analysis.
    • Metallographic sample preparation and microstructure analysis.
    • Electron Microscopy (SEM)- Image analysis
  • Ability to analyze data and draw deeper conclusions from analytical data to drive faster turnaround times
  • Demonstrable track record of learning new technologies quickly and using your skillset to have a tangible impact in a short time frame
  • Ability to identify and execute metallic materials testing metrics to shorten the cycle of learning
  • Apply knowledge in inorganic chemistry to solve issues in characterizing the coatings and finishes.
  • A technical leader with the ability to positively influence peers and bring the team together
  • Track record of intellectual property creation
  • Implement Boeing safety standards while working.
  • Maintains compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations
Preferred Skills/Experience:
  • 5+ years of industrial experience in the area of metallic materials testing and characterization.
  • Experience in materials processing, research & development, and product development in the aerospace industry.
  • Hands on experience in characterization techniques and equipment, including SEM-EDS, Rockwell/Vickers\xe2\x80\x99s hardness, Elemental Analysis, Metallographic sample preparation, optical microscopy, mechanical property testing.
  • Working experience on aerospace grade materials
  • Should have knowledge on coating Chemistry, application and functional testing (Corrosion, Adhesion, Hardness, wear, fatigue, etc.) of these coating systems.
  • Broad understanding of failure modes in metallic materials
  • Experience with technical review of material processing and understanding interaction between process variables and resultant material performance

  • Engineering Bachelor Or Master\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Material Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar appropriate degrees with 5 to 8 years of relevant Work Experience
