Job Description


This position is responsible for providing legal and compliance advice, protecting the legal interests and responsibility of all our company businesses in INDIA and neighboring markets. The position shall handle all legal and compliance matters arising from our organisation and its affiliates as designated by and under the supervision of the Director, Legal & Compliance. In addition, as a member of the legal and compliance team, the incumbent needs to work in conjunction with other team members, as well as other colleagues from the global legal and compliance organization, external local counsel and relevant headquarters and subsidiary staff and functional groups, as needed. We partner with the business to ensure we maintain our company\xe2\x80\x99s values and high ethical standards, comply with the law, protect our people, and enhance our reputation. We strive to foster an environment that is inspiring, supportive, and diverse. . Key Responsibilities: The activities will include but are not limited to:

  • Providing commercial, practical legal advice in accordance with business priorities
  • Support key commercial initiatives including business development and new product initiatives
  • Drafting and/or reviewing contracts, including potentially largescale business development contracts
  • Providing internal legal review as part of organisational medico-legal process for promotional materials according to local laws and our company policies and standards
  • Assisting Legal and Compliance Director to identify opportunities and implement strategies to ensure high performing L&C team and efficient partnership other businesses and functions within our organisation
  • Identify opportunities to increase operational efficiencies within Legal and compliance, eliminate low value/low risk work
  • Providing counsel and support where appropriate, to assist in the implementation of in-country compliance initiatives, controls and measures
  • Guide, monitor and assist all activities across businesses that require compliance and legal input, and to ensure all corporate, regional and local compliance objectives and goals of India are met
  • Provide sound, appropriate and timely compliance advice and oversight on all proposals for new or revised initiatives/programs in India and neighboring markets, including but not limited to, patient programs, marketing initiatives, customer centricity projects, business development deals and other business proposals
  • Providing counsel and support where appropriate, to assist in the implementation of in-country compliance initiatives, controls and measures
  • Providing legal support in regulatory matters
  • Monitor changes and developments in the legal and regulatory environment in which our company operates, advise and develop appropriate strategies
  • Providing Support on Disputes/Litigation
  • Support the initiation, defence, negotiation, settlement and management all litigation, disputes and actions arising from business operations in INDIA, including contractual, IP, adverse event claims, compliance and regulatory challenges, in collaboration/consultation with Director, Legal & Compliance \xe2\x80\x93 INDIA, regional legal team and other legal colleagues from headquarters or other divisions as appropriate
  • Providing Support on Intellectual Property
  • Support global IP attorneys to coordinate local trademark and patent filings and collect and disseminate intellectual property information for local management, as needed;
  • Provide advice on local strategies and counteractions in relation to local IP infringement and enforcement actions, in consultation with our company IP attorneys.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s or Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in law from accredited law school and admitted to practice law in India.
  • Qualified Company Secretary from the Institute of Company Secretaries of India would be an advantage.
  • 10 years or more of post-admission experience.
  • Additional professional or academic legal qualification would be advantageous.
  • To pro-actively identify compliance issues and concerns and consistently apply a high standard of integrity, professionalism, legal knowledge, expertise and business ethics to achieve satisfactory resolution of such issues and concerns.
  • To provide practical, commercially focused and value-added legal advice.
  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills.
  • Very strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • To work independently, collaboratively across functions and with cross functional teams with good attention for details
  • To effectively manage workflow, competing priorities and changing circumstances.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Strong leadership and presentation skills, including the ability to present to executive level management
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to conduct training, interviews and investigations, as needed.
  • Ability to promote teamwork and open discussion of issues and guide others.
  • Ability to explain difficult issues and work to build alignment around complex or challenging situations.
  • In-house legal and compliance experience with a multi-national pharmaceutical company;
  • Private practice experience in advising the pharmaceutical industry;
  • Private practice experience in providing general commercial, regulatory, including competition, marketing, compliance and/or intellectual property advice. Some experience in commercial litigation and general employment law desirable.
