Identify, evaluate, and finalize reliable suppliers for cables, conductors, wires, and accessories.
Handle procurement of raw materials such as copper, aluminum, PVC, XLPE, steel tapes, and insulation materials.
Float RFQs (Request for Quotation), compare technical-commercial offers, and prepare negotiation sheets.
Vendor Development & Management
Develop new vendors to reduce dependency on a single source.
Maintain long-term relationships with key cable manufacturers and suppliers.
Conduct supplier audits for quality, delivery reliability, and compliance with industry standards (IS/IEC/ASTM).
Cost Control & Negotiation
Negotiate price contracts considering market volatility of copper/aluminum.
Lock long-term rate contracts for stable procurement.
Identify cost-saving opportunities through alternate suppliers, bulk procurement, and optimized logistics.
Inventory & Material Planning
Forecast material requirements based on project pipeline and production schedules.
Coordinate with stores to maintain optimum stock levels and avoid shortages.
Implement Just-in-Time (JIT) procurement strategies where feasible.
Quality & Compliance
Ensure that all procured materials meet technical specifications, safety, and compliance standards.
Work closely with the Quality Assurance team for pre-dispatch inspections and material approvals.
Ensure adherence to company procurement policies, legal requirements, and ethical practices.
Market Intelligence & Reporting
Track global and domestic trends in copper, aluminum, and polymer prices affecting cable costs.
Prepare periodic procurement reports for management on cost savings, vendor performance, and market updates.
Benchmark cable pricing across multiple suppliers for competitive advantage.
Coordination & Support
Liaise with project teams to ensure timely delivery of cables for site execution.
Coordinate with finance for supplier payments, credit terms, and reconciliation.
Support R&D/Engineering in sourcing special/customized cables.
Team & Process Management
Lead and mentor a small procurement team.
Implement ERP/Procurement software for streamlined purchasing.
Continuously improve procurement processes for efficiency and transparency.
Skills & Knowledge:
In-depth knowledge of LV, MV, HV & EHV cables, joints, and terminations.
Understanding of raw material procurement (copper, aluminum, PVC, XLPE, etc.).
Strong negotiation and vendor development skills.
ERP/Procurement software experience (SAP, Oracle, Tally, etc.).
Market awareness of cable industry trends and pricing fluctuations.
Excellent communication, leadership, and analytical skills.
Qualification:
Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (preferred).
MBA in Materials Management / Supply Chain (added advantage).
5+ years of proven experience in procurement within the
cables industry
