Job Description



It is one of the oldest sugar producers in India, with a history dating back to 1788. It has a diversified portfolio of products, including bio-products, nutraceuticals, and co-generation of power. It is also a leader in organic farming and sustainable agriculture. It has a strong presence in South India, with nine sugar plants and 16 co-generation plants.

Roles & Responsibility:

  • Research and development: Agronomist stay updated on the latest research and technologies in sugarcane farming. Must conduct trials and studies to improve crop management practices, and test innovative tools or techniques.
  • Crop nutrition: Agronomist conduct soil tests to evaluate nutrient levels and develop tailored fertilizer recommendations for various zones. Provide recommendations on nutrient requirements and application methods to ensure optimal nutrient uptake by the crop
  • Weed and pest control: Agronomists assess weed pressure and recommend appropriate herbicides, timing, and application methods for effective weed control. They also provide guidance on integrated pest management strategies to prevent or minimize the impact of insect pests and diseases on the crop.
  • Irrigation and water management: Agronomist advise on proper micro irrigation practices and develop water management plans. Ensure that the crop receives adequate water at the right time to optimize growth and yield, considering factors like soil moisture sensors and evapotranspiration data.
  • Training and education: Agronomist TO conduct training sessions and workshops to educate farmers and cane field staff on good agricultural practices, new technologies, and advancements in sugarcane farming. Also provide guidance on crop management techniques and help troubleshoot any issues faced by farmers.
  • Need to guide the scientific team consist of varietal development, crop production, Crop protection, analytical and various aspects of sugarcane research as required by the industry.
  • Crop planning and management: Agronomist develop and implement the crop plan along with cane operation - considering factors like soil type, nutrients, water availability etc. He should ensure the sustainable and efficient use of resources like fertilizer, water, and agrochemicals.
  • Field assessments and monitoring: Agronomist regularly visit sugarcane fields to assess crop health, growth, and yield potential. He also analyze soil fertility and nutrient levels to provide recommendations for fertilizer application.
  • Overall, sugarcane agronomist play a vital role in optimizing sugarcane production by providing farmers with technical expertise, ensuring sustainable crop management practices, and facilitating the adoption of innovations in the field.
