Job Description

Job Purpose

To oversee and manage all activities in the steel yard, including material receipt, storage, handling, inventory accuracy, manpower supervision, and safe yard operations. Ensuring timely availability of steel materials for production and dispatch.

Key Responsibilities

A. Material Management

Monitor daily steel material receipt, unloading, stacking, and proper storage.

Verify incoming materials against purchase orders, delivery challans, and quality standards.

Ensure proper tagging, identification, and location management of materials.

Coordinate with the procurement and production team for daily material requirements.

B. Inventory Control

Maintain accurate stock records in the system/manual registers.

Conduct periodic stock audits (daily/weekly/monthly).

Minimize material losses, wastage, and discrepancies.

Manage FIFO/LIFO as per company policy.

C. Yard Operations

Ensure smooth handling of loading and unloading operations using cranes, forklifts, and other equipment.

Plan yard layout for safe movement and storage optimization.

Coordinate with transporters for inward and outward movement.

Prevent material damage during movement and storage.

D. Manpower & Equipment Supervision

Supervise yard manpower (helpers, crane operators, forklift operators, cutters, loaders).

Allocate daily work and monitor productivity.

Ensure all equipment is operated safely and maintained regularly.

E. Safety & Compliance

Enforce safety rules, PPE usage, and safe material handling practices.

Ensure compliance with company SOPs, quality standards, and statutory requirements.

Report incidents, near misses, and ensure corrective actions.

F. Coordination & Reporting

Coordinate with production, procurement, QA/QC, accounts, and logistics.

Prepare daily stock reports, inward-outward reports, and MIS as required.

Escalate material shortages, discrepancies, or operational issues.

Skills & Competencies

Strong knowledge of steel materials (MS, SS, structural steel, rods, coils, sheets).

Good understanding of yard operations and material handling equipment.

Inventory management skills.

Team handling and coordination.

Basic computer knowledge (Excel, SAP / ERP preferred).

Strong communication and problem-solving skills.

Safety-oriented mindset.

Qualifications & Experience

Education: Diploma / ITI / Graduate in any discipline.

Experience: 10-15 years of experience in steel yard / store operations / material handling.

Experience in construction, fabrication, or heavy engineering industry preferred.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: ?50,000.00 - ?70,000.00 per month
