The X-ray Technician is responsible for performing diagnostic radiographic examinations using X-ray equipment to support physicians in diagnosing and treating medical conditions. The role involves patient preparation, operating imaging equipment, ensuring radiation safety, and maintaining accurate records in compliance with hospital protocols and statutory guidelines.
Explain X-ray procedures to patients and answer their questions.
Correctly position patients and equipment to capture required images.
Operate digital or analog X-ray machines to produce diagnostic images.
Ensure proper image quality for diagnosis while minimizing repeat exposures.
2. Equipment Handling & Maintenance
Set up and calibrate X-ray machines and accessories as needed.
Maintain cleanliness and functionality of radiology equipment.
Report any malfunction or maintenance issues to the biomedical/technical team.
3. Radiation Safety & Compliance
Follow radiation protection protocols for patients, self, and staff (e.g., using lead aprons, shielding).
Comply with
Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB)
regulations for radiation safety.
Ensure proper documentation of radiation doses as per hospital and regulatory guidelines.
4. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate patient records, reports, and imaging logs.
Input imaging data into the hospital's Radiology Information System (RIS) or Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
Support radiologists by providing images and relevant patient history when required.
5. Emergency & Mobile X-ray
Assist in emergency and trauma cases requiring urgent imaging.
Operate portable X-ray units for bedridden patients in wards or ICUs.
Qualifications:
Education:
Diploma or B.Sc. in Radiography / Medical Imaging Technology from a recognised institute.
Experience:
0-3 years of experience in a hospital or diagnostic center. Freshers may be considered with internship experience.
Key Skills & Competencies:
Proficient in using digital and conventional X-ray machines.
Knowledge of human anatomy and radiographic positioning.
Good communication and interpersonal skills with patients and medical staff.
Ability to work under pressure and handle emergency situations.
Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high safety standards.
Working Conditions:
Hospital environment: exposure to patients with various conditions, including infectious diseases.
May be required to work in shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
Physically demanding: standing for long periods, assisting in patient positioning, lifting equipment.
