1. Workshop Operations & Maintenance Management
Oversee servicing, repairs, and maintenance of trailers, cranes, and other equipment as per OEM guidelines.
Ensure adherence to preventive maintenance schedules and timely repairs to minimize downtime.
Supervise workshop processes, including welding, lathing, and fabrication of required parts.
Manage transportation fixtures such as lashings and lifting accessories for safety and compliance.
Implement safety protocols and ensure compliance with industry regulations.
2. Fleet & Equipment Management
Coordinate with fleet managers to oversee the scheduling of routine maintenance and emergency repairs.
Ensure optimal utilization and upkeep of lifting equipment and erection support tools.
Monitor fuel consumption, maintenance costs, and overall fleet efficiency.
3. Inventory & Procurement Management
Oversee the purchase department and ensure timely procurement of spares, tools, and consumables.
Manage store inventory, track stock levels, and optimize material usage.
Develop relationships with vendors and negotiate cost-effective procurement contracts.
4. Administrative & Compliance Oversight
Establish and enforce workshop policies, SOPs, and best practices.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance logs, inventory, and compliance documents.
Ensure regulatory compliance related to transportation, safety, and environmental laws.
Supervise security, cleanliness, and overall upkeep of the workshop and yard.
5. Team Leadership & Coordination
Lead, mentor, and manage a team of technicians, mechanics, and administrative staff.
Assign tasks, monitor performance, and conduct periodic evaluations and training programs.
Address staff grievances, ensure adherence to company policies, and maintain discipline.
Work closely with workers, sitting with them at their workplace if needed, to observe their performance and style of working, process compliance etc., and ensure that they are mentored to perform their tasks effectively.
6. Process Improvement & Cost Optimization
Analyze workshop operations and recommend process improvements for efficiency and cost reduction.
Implement systems to minimize waste, optimize resource utilization, and enhance productivity.
Utilize data-driven insights to make informed decisions on workshop performance improvements.
7. Communication & Reporting
Act as the key liaison between management, fleet operators, procurement teams, and external vendors.
Prepare and present reports on workshop efficiency, budget utilization, and maintenance schedules.
Collaborate with department heads to address operational challenges and implement effective solutions.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.
5+ years of experience in workshop management, fleet maintenance, or transport operations.
Strong technical knowledge of heavy vehicles, trailers, cranes, and workshop machinery.
Experience with procurement, inventory management, and vendor coordination.
Proficiency in administrative software and reporting tools.
Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards in transport and workshop environments.
Ability to work with ERP systems or fleet management software.
