Job Title: Works In-charge - Public Transport Operations



Department: Maintenance



Location: Depot / Workshop



Reports To: General Manager / Maintenance In-charge / Depot Manager



Job Purpose:



To manage and oversee the entire maintenance and repair operations of the fleet (Ashok Leyland and/or JBM buses), ensuring optimal performance, compliance with statutory norms, minimal downtime, and cost-effective operations for both CNG and Diesel vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:



1. Fleet Maintenance & Repairs



Plan, schedule, and monitor preventive and corrective maintenance of CNG/Diesel buses.

Supervise workshop activities, ensuring timely repairs and minimal vehicle off-road (VOR) time.

Maintain records of vehicle health, breakdown trends, fuel efficiency, and performance parameters.

Ensure compliance with OEM guidelines and maintenance schedules for Ashok Leyland and JBM buses.

2. Staff & Workshop Management



Supervise and manage maintenance team including supervisors, mechanics, electricians, fitters, etc.

Allocate tasks, monitor productivity, and ensure technical competency of the workforce.

Conduct skill enhancement and safety training for workshop staff.

Promote a safe, clean, and efficient work environment in line with depot/workshop SOPs.

3. Breakdown & Emergency Response



Lead quick response to vehicle breakdowns; analyze root cause and implement preventive measures.

Liaise with OEM service teams (Ashok Leyland/JBM) for technical support as required.

Maintain emergency tool kits and mobile breakdown support readiness.

4. Inventory & Spare Parts Management



Coordinate with the Store Department for availability of critical spares and consumables.

Approve indenting and ensure optimum stock levels to avoid maintenance delays.

Monitor usage patterns to avoid pilferage and unnecessary expenditure.

5. Compliance & Documentation



Ensure compliance with CMVR, AIS standards, and state transport authority requirements.

Maintain updated service history, pollution, insurance, and permit records for fleet.

Conduct internal audits of vehicle condition and workshop procedures.

6. Vendor & AMC Coordination



Supervise AMC contractors or third-party service providers, ensuring SLA adherence.

Evaluate vendor performance and recommend empanelment or discontinuation.

7. Cost Control & Reporting



Monitor fuel, lubricant, and spare consumption; identify abnormal trends.

Prepare and submit reports on fleet availability, breakdowns, MTTR (Mean Time to Repair), and expenditure.

Implement cost-saving measures without compromising on service quality.

Qualifications & Experience:



Diploma / B.E. / B. Tech in Automobile / Mechanical Engineering.

8-12 years of experience in maintenance of commercial vehicles, especially buses.

Experience with Ashok Leyland and/or JBM buses is essential.

Hands-on knowledge of CNG and Diesel vehicle maintenance.

Familiarity with fleet management systems and diagnostic tools.

Key Skills:



Leadership and team management.

Technical expertise in bus aggregates (engine, transmission, electrical, suspension, HVAC).

Problem-solving and root cause analysis.

Strong communication and vendor management skills.

Knowledge of safety and statutory compliance.

KPI (Key Performance Indicators):



Fleet availability (% uptime)

Breakdown frequency and MTTR

Maintenance cost per km

Compliance scores (fitness, pollution, audits)

Staff productivity and skill matrix

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ?35,000.00 - ?40,000.00 per month
