This is not a desk job. We are looking for a hands-on engineer who will be the master builder of our aircraft's electrical nervous system. You will be on the shop floor, physically
installing avionics components
and bringing our flight control systems to life. Your mission is to take electrical schematics and turn them into flight-ready, high-reliability wiring harnesses. From
crimping a pin
and
mounting a flight computer
to integrating an 800V power bus, your work is the critical link between design and flight.
About The ePlane Company
The ePlane Company is at the forefront of India's urban air mobility revolution. Incubated at IIT Madras, we are a deep-tech startup dedicated to designing and building the world's most compact electric flying taxi. Our mission is to make door-to-door flying a reality, drastically reducing commute times and decongesting our cities for a cleaner, greener future. We're a passionate team of engineers, designers, and visionaries working on cutting-edge technology, and we're looking for brilliant minds to help us take flight.
Roles and Responsibilities
As the Avionics Wiring/Integration Engineer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end physical fabrication, installation, and integration of the aircraft's electrical systems. You will:
Build Flight-Ready Harnesses:
Perform all hands-on electrical work, including
high-reliability soldering, mil-spec crimping, splicing, shield termination (e.g., solder sleeves), and full connector assembly
(including pin insertion/extraction and backshell installation).
Install and Integrate Components:
Lead the physical installation,
rack mounting, and securing
of avionics components (
LRUs, FCCs, sensors, antennas, and cockpit displays
) on our integration labs (SIL/HIL) and the aircraft itself.
Fabricate & Route Harnesses:
Manage the
looming, routing, and securing
of all wiring harnesses using
lacing cord, P-clamps, and other aerospace-grade hardware
to protect from chafing and vibration.
Read and Interpret:
Be the expert in translating 2D/3D electrical documentation into physical hardware. You must be able to fluently read
schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, and harness fabrication drawings
.
Ensure Electrical Integrity:
Implement and verify all
electrical bonding and grounding
plans for the airframe, including surface preparation and resistance checks.
Test, Validate, and Troubleshoot:
Conduct
continuity checks, isolation tests (using a megohmmeter), and perform initial power-on functional tests
of installed components. Be the first line of defense to
find and fix wiring faults
.
Provide Design Feedback:
Provide direct, hands-on feedback to engineers, including
redlining
wiring diagrams and drawings to reflect as-built configurations and suggest manufacturability improvements.
Required Qualifications (Must-Haves)
Experience:
5+ years
of hands-on experience as an avionics technician, integration technician, or electrical engineer in the aerospace, defense, or high-performance automotive (e.g., Formula 1, EV) industry.
Education:
Diploma, B.E./B.Tech in Electrical, Electronics, or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience (e.g., AME).
Expert Electrical Skills:
Mastery of all hands-on electrical fabrication techniques:
High-Reliability Soldering & Desoldering
(e.g., to IPC J-STD-001 standards).
Mil-Spec Crimping
(pins, lugs, coax) using
calibrated tooling
and positioners.
Connector Assembly:
Proficiency in building and repairing multi-pin circular and rectangular connectors (e.g., D-Sub, MIL-DTL-38999), including pin insertion/extraction and backshell assembly.
Harness Building:
Cable looming,
lacing cord application
, shielding,
heat-shrink boot installation
, and strain relief.
Component Installation Experience:
Proven experience with the
physical installation, mounting, and securing of Line Replaceable Units (LRUs)
, avionics racks, and associated hardware.
Avionics & Bus Wiring:
Proven experience installing and wiring avionics systems, including data buses (
CAN, ARINC 429, Ethernet
) where signal separation and shielding are critical.
Diagram Fluency:
The ability to read, interpret, and work directly from complex
aircraft wiring diagrams, schematics, and harness drawings
.
Best Practices:
Deep knowledge of aerospace wiring best practices, including
grounding, bonding, shielding, and wire routing/separation
as defined in standards like
AC 43.13-1B
.
Test Equipment Expertise:
Must have hands-on experience using and interpreting results from electrical test equipment, including
multimeters, megohmmeters (Megger) / insulation testers, and Time-Domain Reflectometers (TDR)
.
Preferred Qualifications (Good-to-Haves)
High Voltage (HV) Experience:
Experience working with
high-voltage DC systems (e.g., 400V-800V)
and knowledge of the associated safety procedures (e.g., LOTO, PPE, insulation testing) is a major plus.
Wiring CAD Familiarity:
Experience with 3D harness design in tools like
CATIA (Electrical Harness Design workbench)
or other wiring CAD software (e.g., E3.series, VeSys).
Harness Board Experience:
Experience fabricating complex harnesses on a
1:1 harness board
based on layout drawings.
RF & Fiber Optics:
Hands-on experience with
RF cable (coax) termination and testing (VSWR)
or
fiber optic termination and testing
.
AME License
or equivalent certification.
