Job Summary:

The

Wind Resource Assessment (WRA) Engineer

will be responsible for conducting comprehensive wind resource analysis for potential and existing wind power project sites. This role involves the full lifecycle of WRA activities, from site selection and mast installation planning to data collection, analysis, energy yield assessment, and reporting, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of wind resource data for project development and investment decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

Site Selection & Met Mast Planning:

Conduct preliminary site assessments (remote and physical) to identify potential wind farm locations based on wind potential, topography, grid connectivity, and accessibility.
Design and plan the layout and specifications for meteorological (met) masts, including sensor selection (anemometers, wind vanes, temperature, pressure sensors), heights, and data logging systems.
Coordinate with site teams and contractors for the installation and commissioning of met masts.

Data Collection & Management:

Oversee and ensure the continuous collection of high-quality wind and meteorological data from met masts and remote sensing devices (e.g., LiDAR, SODAR).
Manage, clean, and validate large datasets, identifying and correcting data gaps or anomalies.
Implement robust data management protocols and ensure data integrity.

Wind Resource Analysis & Modeling:

Perform detailed wind resource analysis, including wind speed frequency distributions, wind rose analysis, turbulence intensity, and extreme wind speed analysis.
Utilize industry-standard wind modeling software (e.g., Windographer, WAsP, WindSim, Openwind) for micro-siting, flow modeling, and long-term wind resource correlation.
Conduct terrain analysis, roughness assessment, and wake effect modeling.
Energy Yield Assessment (EYA):

Prepare comprehensive energy yield assessments (EYA) for proposed wind farm layouts, considering various wind turbine models, site-specific conditions, and array losses.
Perform uncertainty analysis and calculate P50, P75, P90, and other probability exceedance levels for energy production.
Provide inputs for financial modeling and project feasibility studies.

Reporting & Documentation:

Generate detailed WRA reports, energy yield assessment reports, and technical memos for internal stakeholders and external investors/lenders.
Maintain an organized repository of all WRA data, models, and reports.
Technology & Industry Trends:

Stay abreast of the latest advancements in wind measurement technologies, forecasting techniques, and industry best practices for wind resource assessment.
Evaluate new software and methodologies to enhance WRA capabilities.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Collaborate closely with Project Development, Engineering, Grid Interconnection, and Finance teams to provide critical wind resource inputs for project design, layout optimization, and financial modeling.

REQUIRED

Proven proficiency in industry-standard WRA software such as Windographer, WAsP, WindSim, Openwind, or similar tools.
Strong understanding of wind measurement techniques, met mast design, sensor calibration, and data acquisition systems.
Solid knowledge of atmospheric science, fluid dynamics, and their application to wind resource modeling.
Experience with GIS tools (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) for site mapping and spatial analysis is a plus.
