To oversee, monitor, and manage all welding activities in shipbuilding projects, ensuring welding quality, production efficiency, and compliance with applicable standards, procedures, and safety norms.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and approve
Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS)
,
Procedure Qualification Records (PQR)
, and
Welder Qualification Tests (WQT)
in compliance with shipbuilding standards such as
AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, ABS, DNV, LR
.
Review and interpret
ship drawings, welding symbols, and technical documentation
to ensure correct execution.
Select appropriate
welding consumables, shielding gases, materials, and methods
(SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, SAW, MIG/MAG).
Conduct
welding trials and process optimization
for hull structure, pipe welding, and equipment installation.
Ensure proper
to resolve welding defects, NCRs, rework analysis, and corrective actions.
Train, supervise, and certify welders; maintain welding skills matrix.
Ensure adherence to
HSE requirements
, including WHMIS, PPE, hot work permits, and confined space welding safety.
Maintain documentation, reports, test records, and compliance logs for audits and classification approvals.
Required Qualifications:
Diploma / Degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical, or Welding Engineering
Minimum
3-5 years' experience
in heavy fabrication or shipbuilding environment.
