The Ward In-Charge is responsible for overall management, coordination, and supervision of nursing and support staff in the assigned ward. The role ensures high-quality patient care, proper documentation, discipline, and adherence to hospital policies, NABH standards, and clinical protocols.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Patient Care
Ensure safe, ethical, and quality nursing care to all admitted patients.
Supervise patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
Monitor vital signs, medication administration, and nursing procedures.
Handle patient and relative grievances and ensure patient satisfaction.
Coordinate with doctors for treatment plans and emergency situations.
Staff Management
Plan and manage duty rosters for ward nursing and support staff.
Supervise, guide, and evaluate performance of staff nurses and attendants.
Ensure discipline, punctuality, and adherence to dress code.
Conduct ward handovers and ensure proper shift communication.
Train new staff and ensure adherence to SOPs.
Administrative Duties
Maintain accurate nursing records, census, and documentation.
Ensure proper utilization and maintenance of ward equipment.
Monitor inventory of medicines, consumables, and linen.
Report incidents, shortages, and equipment malfunctions.
Ensure infection control practices and biomedical waste management.
Quality & Compliance
Ensure compliance with NABH, hospital policies, and statutory requirements.
Participate in audits, inspections, and quality improvement activities.
Ensure patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times.
Implement hospital safety, fire, and emergency protocols.
Qualifications & Experience
GNM / B.Sc. Nursing
Minimum
4-5 years
of clinical experience
At least
1-2 years
in a supervisory or senior nursing role
