Global Finance / Finance Operations Open positions:2 Role Title: VP - Reporting Operations GSC\'S Global Career Band: 4 Location (Country / City ) : Bangalore The Opportunity: Role purpose (overall high level summary of the role) This role is to directly support the Head of Reporting Operations who oversees all Reporting activities for the region. The role covers both external reporting ( financial reporting and regulatory reporting) ) and internal management information. The role is a broad and varied role, requiring an understanding of the bank\'s business, performance, and balance sheet, as well as knowledge of how these are reflected in the different reporting requirements. The role holder is accountable to the Head of Reporting Operations in ensuring that HSBC fulfils all its external financial and regulatory reporting requirements and provide guidance to teams in preparation and submission of reporting requirements. The role would ideally have knowledge in financial and regulatory reporting, and an understanding of the bank\'s business, balance sheet and applicable regulatory pronouncements, as well as knowledge of how these are reflected in the different reporting requirements. The role requires communication to and engagement of senior management on comprehensive financial information, including analysis and explanation of key trends and performance, as well as the provision of assurance over the completeness and accuracy of the reporting outputs. The role requires continuous learning and a curious nature, to challenge existing processes and explore the use of new technologies to improve the production of reporting. The key responsibilities of the role holder include: Support the Head of Reporting operations in accurate and timely delivery of the external IFRS financial statements and PRA reporting requirements (i.e. FINREP, COREP, Pillar3, Liquidity) in accordance with defined timelines Supporting the sign off process by providing analysis, insights and commentaries that summarise the procedures carried out and controls exercised to review & challenge the outputs produced Quality of the reporting outputs that reflect the accepted regulatory policy and standards with transparent and robust control procedures that comply with required HSBC internal standards Lead various tactical and strategic initiatives to improve the quality of regulatory reporting and enhance the control environment as part of internal remediation programmes Supporting adhoc requests for regulatory information from various external and internal stakeholders Working closely with various stakeholders like Data Operations, Finance Change delivery and Regulatory Policy to understand, plan and deliver change initiatives including new reporting requirement We encourage diverse profiles to apply for this role to create an inclusive workplace. What you\'ll do: Governance and Committee Memberships The role holder will be a key member of the Regional Reporting Operations management team. The role holder may also be required to participate in key governance forums for the legal entity, either as part of the role\'s responsibilities or as a delegate of Head of Reporting Operations. Accountabilities for Business, Customers and Stakeholders Accurate and timely delivery, including oversight of preparation and assurance of all BAU reporting requirements (internal and external) including local consolidated statutory IFRS/local GAAP financial statements (Annual Report & Accounts and Interim Report), PRA and BOE regulatory reporting, management and liquidity reporting, plus submissions into the HSBC Group reporting processes. Management of the reporting processes and ensuring high quality delivery, as well as escalation, incident management, and stakeholder management around reporting. Delivery of commentary and variance analysis, as well as query resolution. Ensure that the outputs are of a high quality, and prepared in accordance with accepted regulatory and accounting policy. Lead various tactical and strategic initiatives to improve the quality of regulatory reporting and enhance the control environment as part of internal remediation programmes Responsible for monitoring and assessing the effectiveness of the controls over the reporting processes and ensuring that control design is in line with HSBC\'s control framework and complies with all requirements (such as SOX). Works closely with Data Operations, Financial Accounting, Risk Chief Data Office, Financial Control and Finance Change Delivery teams Understand stakeholders\' objectives, direction, priorities and challenges, managing and addressing concerns and objections Foster open communication which anticipates stakeholder expectations Leadership & Teamwork Assists the Head of Reporting Operations in developing a deep pool of talent with understanding of technical financial and regulatory pronouncements Provide understanding of how technical accounting and reporting translates into operational processes Promote a culture of continuous innovation, challenge the business on approach and apply knowledge of relevant latest developments. Adopt new ways of working such as Agile, particularly in respect of change activities, and encourage the adoption of new technology within the reporting teams Working closely with various stakeholders like Data Operations, Finance Change delivery and Accounting and Regulatory Policy to understand, plan and deliver change initiatives including new reporting requirements Operational Effectiveness & Control Pro-active approach to process improvement and query resolution To continually reassess the operational risks inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology. To implement the Group Compliance Policy by containing compliance risk in conjunction with the relevant compliance department. The term \'compliance\' embraces all relevant laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply. Leadership over regulatory and compliance matters and the management of operational risk within the reporting teams. Major Challenges The increasing burden of new accounting, regulatory and disclosure requirements within extremely tight timelines. The complex nature of the Group and the emerging and sometimes divergent and ad-hoc ways in which management wishes to review and disclose the financial data present substantial challenges. Management and prioritisation of deliverables within set amount of budget/resources defined by Global Head of Finance Operations/Legal entity CFO Management of Risk To ensure procedures comply with Sarbanes Oxley and Finance Functional Instruction Manual (FFIM). All procedures are in line with GSM Chapter 3 (Finance) The jobholder will also continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology. This will be achieved by ensuring all actions take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring, and also by addressing any areas of concern in conjunction with line management and/or the appropriate department Observation of Internal Controls Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators. Jobholder is an \'insider\' for dealing purposes and subject to strict controls and confidentiality. Complies with Group Finance Functional Instruction Manuals and Group SOX requirements and enforces reporting sites\' compliance with certain areas of the required internal controls. The jobholder will also adhere to and be able to demonstrate adherence to internal controls. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators. The jobholder will implement the Group compliance policy by containing compliance risk in liaison with Global Head of Compliance, Global Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer. The term \'compliance\' embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply. This will be achieved by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures and by liaising with Compliance department about new business initiatives at the earliest opportunity. Also and when applicable, by ensuring adequate resources are in place and training is provided, fostering a compliance culture and optimising relations with regulators. Requirements What you will need to succeed in the role: Functional Knowledge Experienced Finance Professional with a proven track record of delivering Regulatory Reporting or Financial Reporting obligations within a large scale financial services entity with 13+ years of experience. Strong technical understanding of requirements underpinning regulatory and/or financial reporting in areas like capital, liquidity, RWAs, Leverage, etc. Understanding of financial products and how they impact reporting requirement, and more generically the banking business, balance sheet and P&L. Strong ability to anticipate, identify and mitigate risks and apply appropriate controls over reporting processes Experience in playing a key role in delivering a complex change project in the Financial and Regulatory reporting space and / or track record of delivering continuous process improvements through technology and non-technology solutions Self-motivated, confident, creative and capable of working effectively autonomously as well as part of a team Ability to work in a dynamic environment with strong management, decision-making, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills including the ability to listen to and influence stakeholders at all levels, and to build consensus among a wide range of internal and external customers with conflicting priorities Commercially minded and ability to both make decisions in a timely manner and to delegate to others
