Job Summary:
As a VMC Programmer, you will be responsible for creating, maintaining, and optimizing programs for Vertical Machining Centers (VMC) used in the production of precision components. Your primary objective will be to develop efficient machining programs that meet quality standards and production schedules. Additionally, you will collaborate with engineers, machinists, and production managers to ensure seamless integration of programming with machining operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Development: Create CNC programs for VMCs using CAD/CAM software based on engineering drawings, specifications, and production requirements.
Optimization: Continuously optimize machining programs to improve efficiency, minimize cycle times, and reduce production costs.
Tooling Selection: Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and machining parameters to achieve desired machining results while ensuring tool life and minimizing scrap.
Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough testing and simulation of machining programs to ensure accuracy, surface finish, and dimensional tolerances meet quality standards.
Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of all programming activities, including program revisions, tooling changes, and setup instructions.
Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve programming issues, machining errors, and tooling problems to minimize downtime and maximize machine utilization.
Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, machinists, and production personnel to review designs, discuss machining strategies, and address any concerns or suggestions for program improvement.
Training and Support: Provide training and technical support to operators and machinists on the use of CNC programs, machine setup, and troubleshooting techniques.
Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on advancements in machining technology, software, and programming techniques to incorporate best practices and enhance productivity.
Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, regulations, and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
Proven experience as a CNC programmer, preferably with expertise in programming VMCs.
Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, POWERMILL, Mastercam) and G-code programming.
Strong knowledge of machining processes, cutting tools, and materials.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with multi-axis machining and complex part geometries.
Familiarity with Lean manufacturing principles and practices.
Certification in CNC programming or related fields.
