Job Description

A VMC Operator runs Vertical Machining Centers (VMCs) to create precise parts from technical drawings, handling machine setup, tool selection, program loading, operation, quality checks (using measuring tools), and basic maintenance, requiring blueprint reading, G-code/M-code knowledge, and troubleshooting skills to ensure efficient, high-quality production while following safety protocols. Key Responsibilities

Machine Operation:

Load/unload materials, set up tools, select programs (G-code/M-code), and operate VMC machines.

Setup & Calibration:

Install tools, set offsets, and adjust feeds/speeds for specific materials (metals, plastics).

Quality Control:

Read blueprints, inspect finished parts with measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers), and ensure adherence to specifications.

Maintenance:

Perform routine maintenance, keep the work area clean, and troubleshoot minor machine issues.

Documentation:

Maintain production records.
Essential Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in operating VMC machines, reading blueprints, understanding G-code/M-code, tool management, and basic computer skills.

Soft Skills:

Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, mechanical aptitude, communication, and teamwork.

Experience:

Previous experience as a CNC or VMC operator, often with a technical diploma or equivalent certification.
Common Tools & Software

Controllers:

Fanuc, Siemens.

Software:

CAM software (like Mastercam) is a plus.

Instruments:

Calipers, micrometers, gauges.
