Job Description

The VMC Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and performing routine maintenance on Vertical Machining Center (VMC) machines to produce precision metal or plastic parts according to engineering drawings and specifications. This role requires proficiency in reading blueprints, understanding GD&T, utilizing standard measuring instruments, and ensuring the highest quality standards are maintained throughout the production run.

Key Responsibilities

Machine Operation & Setup:

Set up and operate VMC machines (e.g., Haas, Fanuc, Siemens control systems) by installing, aligning, and securing tooling, fixtures, and workpieces. Load, edit, and optimize CNC programs (G-code and M-code) to ensure efficient and accurate machining. Select and install appropriate cutting tools, setting tool offsets, and adjusting feeds and speeds for optimal performance and surface finish.

Quality Control:

Perform in-process inspection using precision measuring tools such as

micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and height gauges

. Interpret engineering

blueprints and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

symbols to ensure parts meet specified tolerances. Identify and troubleshoot dimensional or cosmetic issues, making necessary adjustments to the machine or program.

Maintenance & Safety:

Perform

routine machine maintenance

, including cleaning chips, checking coolant levels, and lubrication. Adhere strictly to all company safety regulations, wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times. Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards immediately to the supervisor.

Documentation:

Complete accurate production and quality control documentation, including shift logs, inspection reports, and non-conformance records.
