Position Overview
The Vision Application Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, deploying, and supporting machine vision solutions for industrial automation applications. This role involves working closely with customers, project managers, and engineering teams to deliver high-performance vision systems that enable quality inspection, measurement, guidance, and process optimization.
Key Responsibilities
Solution Development
Design and implement machine vision applications using platforms such as Cognex, Keyence, Basler, Omron, or similar systems.
Develop algorithms for image acquisition, processing, pattern recognition, measurement, barcode/QR reading, and defect detection.
Select appropriate vision hardware (cameras, lenses, lighting, filters, controllers) based on application requirements.
Conduct feasibility studies, sample testing, and proof-of-concept (POC) evaluations.
Project Execution
Collaborate with automation engineers to integrate vision systems with PLCs, robots, SCADA, and motion control systems.
Configure communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, OPC UA, Modbus, TCP/IP, etc.).
Support installation, commissioning, and field validation of vision systems at customer sites.
Troubleshoot and optimize system performance, image quality, and cycle time.
Customer & Technical Support
Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical support.
Prepare technical documentation, user manuals, and training for customers.
Work with sales teams to understand customer requirements and propose suitable vision solutions.
Perform on-site audits, application assessments, and improvement recommendations.
Continuous Improvement
Keep updated with the latest advancements in machine vision technologies, AI/ML-based inspection, and industrial automation standards.
Contribute to internal knowledge base, best practices, and product evaluations.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree in Electrical/ Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, Automation, or related disciplines.
Experience
2-5 years of hands-on experience in machine vision application development (or senior-level experience if required).
Experience with at least one major vision platform (Cognex VisionPro/Insight, Keyence IV/XG, Halcon, OpenCV, etc.).
Background in industrial automation projects involving PLCs, robotics, and motion systems is an advantage.
Technical Skills
Strong understanding of imaging principles: optics, lighting, color, contrast, field of view, depth of field.
Proficiency in vision software tools and image processing techniques.
Basic programming exposure (Python, C#, C++, VB, or scripting languages).
Familiarity with industrial communication protocols.
Knowledge of AI/Deep Learning vision tools (optional but beneficial).
Soft Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication skills to interact with customers and cross-functional teams.
Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver under deadlines.
Willingness to travel for site support and commissioning.
Work Environment
Based in office with regular travel to customer sites, factories, and integration partners.
