Job Summary

The Video Editor is responsible for assembling recorded raw material into a finished product that is suitable for broadcasting. The material may include camera footage, dialogue, sound effects, graphics, and special effects. The goal is to bring the director's vision to life and tell a cohesive, engaging story while maintaining high production standards.

Key Responsibilities

Assembly & Editing:

Review shooting script and raw material to create a shot decision list based on scenes' value and contribution to continuity. Trim footage segments and put together the sequence of the film. Input uncut rushes and sound, and synchronize and store them into files on the computer.

Post-Production Polish:

Create rough and final cuts. Ensure logical sequencing and smooth running. Consult with the director, producer, and stakeholders from production to post-production process. Perform color correction and color grading to ensure a consistent visual style.

Audio Engineering:

Select and mix music, dialogues, and sound effects. Ensure audio levels are balanced and noise is reduced.

Graphics & Effects:

Create and implement motion graphics, text overlays, and subtitles. Apply visual effects (VFX) where necessary.

File Management:

Manage media assets and archiving projects. Export videos in various formats suitable for different platforms (YouTube, Instagram, Broadcast, etc.).

Technical Skills:

Software Proficiency:

Expert knowledge of industry-standard editing software, specifically:

Adobe Premiere Pro

Soft Skills:

Storytelling:

A creative mind with strong storytelling skills.

Education & Experience

Portfolio:

A strong reel or portfolio demonstrating video editing ability is usually the most important requirement.

Degree:

BS degree in Film Studies, Cinematography, or related field is often preferred but not always mandatory if experience is proven.

Experience:

Proven work experience as a Video Editor (typically 2+ years for mid-level roles).

Attention to Detail:

Meticulous eye for continuity, pacing, and timing.

Time Management:

Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Communication:

Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with a creative team.
