Firm Risk Management (FRM) supports Morgan Stanley to achieve its business goals by partnering with business units across the Firm to realize efficient risk-adjusted returns, acting as a strategic advisor to the Board and protecting the Firm from exposure to losses as a result of credit, market, liquidity, operational, model and other risks.
Background on the Position
The role will reside within Firm Risk Management's Operational Risk Department. Operational Risk refers to the risk of financial or other loss, or potential damage to a firm's reputation, resulting from inadequate or failed internal processes, people, systems, or from external events (e.g., fraud, legal and compliance risks or damage to physical assets). The Firm may incur operational risk across the full scope of its business activities, including revenue-generating activities (e.g., sales and trading) and control groups (e.g., information technology and trade processing). This position directly supports a senior-level team in operational risk by providing analytical, decision-making, and presentation support.
Primary Responsibilities
The ORD Strategic Business Analytics team provides primary global support across Operational risk to locations in New York, London, and Hong Kong. Team members have primary responsibility for a specific coverage area and work in close collaboration with other members of operational risk and business teams. As such there is flexibility in how responsibilities and tasks are managed across the team, both locally and globally.
As the Baltimore Team Lead, you will be responsible for managing a team of Analysts and Associates within our Baltimore location, ensuring that projects/tasks are delivered on time. Additionally, you will use your data analytical skills to provide coverage support to Business Unit / Specialist Coverage teams within ORD.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Contribute to development of presentations for executive management and senior risk managers in support of our Risk management of the Firm's Wealth Management Division
- Work collaboratively with the Coverage teams in New York and Mumbai to scope projects, define analytical approaches, establish time frames, conduct analyses, and summarize conclusions in concise presentations
- Participate in scenario analysis preparation supporting analytical approaches to estimate stress losses across a range of operational risks and a variety of business, operational and financial market conditions
- Support the Coverage team with a focus on analyzing large data sets of structured and unstructured data
- Manage the Baltimore SBA team's project delivery, priorities and career development
- Ensure that managerial responsibilities (e.g., input on performance appraisals, goal setting, training) for the team are completed on time
- Lead the hiring process for the Baltimore SBA team

Qualifications

Experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent, ideally in a Quantitative discipline - Finance, Economics, Mathematics or similar
- 5 years of experience in Financial Institutions, Risk Management, and/or Data Analytics
- 2 years of experience in directly leading, managing, mentoring, and motivating teams in high data volume and ad hoc request environments
- Ability to communicate analytic results to a variety of stakeholders
- Ability to work under pressure with competing demands and challenging deadlines
Skills Desired:
- Experience with data analytics, reporting and/or data visualization tools and systems
- Prior Operational Risk / Data Analysis / Management Reporting experience
