Job Summary

The VCU design Engineer –As a member of the drivetrain VCU team, will model, design, implement, test and benchmark the vehicle control function and drive the control strategies to create the USP of the vehicle control system and implement the same along with the VCU algo team



Roles and Responsibilities

  • Define requirements for vehicle control software and interfacing hardware components including voltage and current sensors, power stages, speed sensors
  • Understand, drive design of, and implement vehicle controller functionality, behaviors, and algorithms
  • Develop, test, and validate motor control algorithms in the laboratory and in-vehicle
  • Perform design, analysis, development, optimization and support validation of Electric Machine controls (BLDC, IM, IPM motors & new technologies etc.,) and effectively supports subsystem and vehicle-level integration to ensure high-quality performance.
  • Benchmarking of Electric vehicle control units for Electric Vehicle applications
  • Lead investigation into internal, assembly and customer quality issues for timely, high-confidence resolution. Support robust problem-solving methodology (8D, fault tree analysis, etc.) to define root cause and develop issue resolution path.
  • Serve as subject-matter expert (SME) for Electric vehicle control unit design and development.
  • Support development of program-specific component specifications that ensure compliance to all Vehicle, System and Component requirements (incl. performance, EMC, electrical safety, thermal, reliability, and durability).
  • Meet timing and cost objectives (part cost and NRE) for all Electric Machine components.
  • Lead the Problem Resolution and tracking process (e.g. JIRA) and provide feedback on status to tracked problems.



Experience & Skills

  • Strong Theoretical Knowledge in Electric vehicle and their controllers sizing and design
  • In-depth understanding of torque control techniques such as slip-based control, field oriented control, direct torque control etc.,
  • Excellent capability in design and analysis of electric machine drives for eVs
  • Very good familiarity with power electronics and inverter hardware layout
  • Experience with various PWM schemes such as space vector, discontinuous, and sinusoidal modulation, including data-acquisition methods
  • Experience in detailed analysis, feasibility studies, performance analysis and prototyping.
  • System-oriented understanding of thermal, vehicle-level torque control, high voltage DC-link integration, efficiency optimization, and firmware integration for electric drives
  • Demonstrated understanding of ISO26262 – Functional Safety.
  • Knowledge and in depth understanding on FEA, CFD, DFMEA, FMEA, DFM and DFA
  • Familiar with industry standards for Electric motor control unit design and manufacturing, especially automotive.
  • Ability to understand and translates standards in to concepts and from concept to requirements
  • Knowledge of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) of electric machine controls and vehicle systems.
  • Strong problem solving skills.



Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience
  • M.E/M-Tech (Electric drives)- preferable
  • Experience in Electric drives for EV's for at least 4 years
