The Transmission Calibration Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and validating automatic, manual, or electrified vehicle transmission control strategies and calibrations. This role focuses on achieving optimal performance, fuel economy, emissions compliance, and drivability characteristics across various operating conditions. The engineer will work with powertrain integration and vehicle development teams to deliver best-in-class transmission behaviour.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement transmission control strategies and calibration data for various vehicle programs.
Optimize transmission shift schedules, shift quality, torque converter lock-up, and clutch control for enhanced drivability, performance, and fuel efficiency.
Conduct in-vehicle and test bench calibration, data acquisition, and analysis using relevant tools (e.g., ETAS INCA, ATI Vision, CANape, oscilloscopes, various sensors).
Analyze test data, identify issues, and implement calibration adjustments to resolve them.
Collaborate with engine calibration, software, hardware, and vehicle integration teams to ensure seamless powertrain functionality.
Support root cause analysis of transmission-related issues and propose effective solutions.
Document calibration changes, test procedures, and results in a clear and concise manner.
Stay updated with the latest automotive transmission technologies, industry trends, and regulatory requirements.
Participate in vehicle testing and validation activities on track and public roads as required.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor//'s or Master//'s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
3 years of experience in automotive powertrain calibration, with a focus on transmission systems (Automatic, Manual, CVT, DCT, Hybrid).
Strong understanding of transmission hardware, control systems, and operating principles.
Proficiency with calibration tools such as ETAS INCA, ATI Vision, CANape, or similar.
Experience with data acquisition systems, oscilloscopes, thermal couples, and various automotive sensors.
Familiarity with communication protocols (e.g., CAN, FlexRay, LIN).
Knowledge of vehicle dynamics, powertrain interactions, and drivability attributes.
Ability to analyze complex data and solve technical problems effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Simulink/MATLAB for model-based calibration or analysis.
Knowledge of diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and OBD-II requirements.
Experience in a production program launch environment.
Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Work Environment:
Primarily office-based with significant time spent in vehicle, test lab, and/or proving ground environments.
