The Trainee Mechanical Engineer will support the production and engineering teams in day-to-day manufacturing activities, machine assembly, testing, and process improvement. This role offers hands-on industrial exposure and is ideal for fresh mechanical engineering graduates who want to build their career in manufacturing operations.
Detailed Responsibilities
1. Production Support
Assist in daily production activities as guided by the Production Engineer/Supervisor.
Understand manufacturing processes followed in the company (machining, fabrication, assembly, etc.).
Coordinate with machine operators and helpers for smooth production flow.
Monitor machine operations and report abnormalities or delays.
Support in maintaining workplace discipline, safety, and housekeeping (5S activities).
2. Machine Assembly & Installation
Participate in assembly of machines, sub-assemblies, and components.
Assist senior technicians during machine installation and fitment.
Support in conducting basic machine testing and trial runs.
Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) during assembly and installation work.
3. Process Monitoring & Improvement
Observe production processes and identify areas for improvement.
Support in implementing lean practices such as 5S, Kaizen, and waste reduction.
Collect data related to cycle time, material movement, and production efficiency.
Suggest small improvements to enhance productivity and reduce downtime.
4. Project Support
Assist senior engineers in planning and executing production activities for new or ongoing projects.
Take measurements, prepare notes, and support in material follow-up.
Track project timelines and coordinate with departments such as Stores, Maintenance, and Purchase.
Provide field assistance during machine dispatch and installation at customer sites (if required).
5. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain daily production reports, assembly checklists, and activity logs.
Update production records, machine history sheets, and material consumption reports.
Support in preparing data for internal presentations or meetings.
Required Qualifications
Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (Freshers eligible).
Basic understanding of mechanical components and machines.
Familiar with manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, fabrication, or assembly.
Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
Willing to work on shop floor in a manufacturing environment.
Preferred Skills
Knowledge of tools, gauges, and mechanical instruments.
Understanding of production flow and basic industrial safety.
Basic knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word).
