Job Description

Traffic controllers in mining operations manage vehicle and pedestrian movements to ensure safety on busy sites like haul roads and processing areas. For mines in Lubumbashi, DRC, such as those operated by Golden African Resources SARL, the role focuses on heavy equipment like haul trucks amid challenging terrain and weather.?

Key Responsibilities

Direct traffic flow for haul trucks, light vehicles, and pedestrians around mining zones, excavations, and workshops. Set up and monitor traffic signals, signs, and barriers while coordinating with construction or extraction teams to minimize disruptions. Implement site-specific traffic management plans, respond to emergencies, and conduct inspections to enforce compliance with safety protocols.?

Required Qualifications

Hold a valid driver's license (C Class or equivalent) and pass pre-employment medical checks, including police clearance. Demonstrate knowledge of mining traffic regulations, hazard assessment, and radio communication for coordinating with supervisors and operators. Experience in quarries, civil works, or African mining sites preferred, with ability to work outdoors in harsh conditions.?

Site-Specific Details

In Lubumbashi's copper and cobalt mines, prioritize haul route safety, segregation of heavy plant from light vehicles, and integration with DRC mining codes. Roles often follow shift rosters like 26/9 FIFO, emphasizing vigilance near autonomous or semi-automated equipment common in DRC operations. Report to site managers and participate in incident investigations to uphold zero-harm standards.?
