Tool Room Manager / Maintenance Head / Production Manager
Job Purpose:
To ensure the proper maintenance, repair, modification, and management of injection moulding tools (moulds), ensuring they are production-ready, efficient, and maintained to high standards for continuous manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Tool Maintenance & Repair
Perform preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance of injection moulding tools (moulds).
Diagnose and repair defects like flash, short shot, mismatch, wear and tear of cavities, cores, ejector pins, etc.
Polish, clean, and inspect mould components to maintain tool life and product quality.
Replace damaged or worn-out components (pins, bushes, inserts, slides, etc.).
Mould Changeover Support
Assist with efficient mould changeovers on the machine.
Ensure moulds are prepared, inspected, and ready before production.
Tool Modification & Improvement
Carry out design changes or minor engineering modifications on existing moulds.
Work with design/engineering teams for continuous improvements in tool performance and life.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain proper records of mould maintenance history, breakdown reports, and spares used.
Create and update preventive maintenance schedules for each mould.
Document daily toolroom activities and reports.
Machine Operation
Operate tool room machinery such as:
Surface grinders
Milling machines
Lathe machines
EDM/Wire cut machines
Drilling and polishing tools
Inventory & Safety
Maintain inventory of tool room spares, inserts, standard components, and consumables.
Follow safety procedures, use proper PPE, and maintain a clean and organized tool room.
Qualifications:
ITI / Diploma in Tool & Die Making, Mechanical Engineering, or related trade.
Certified Tool Room Technician is a plus.
Skills & Competencies: Technical
:
Strong knowledge of injection mould tools and their assembly/disassembly.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and 2D/3D tool designs.
Hands-on experience with tool room machinery and measuring instruments (micrometres, vernier callipers, height gauges, etc.).
Soft Skills:
Attention to detail and precision work.
Problem-solving and analytical thinking.
Teamwork and time management.
Good communication with production and engineering teams.
Experience:
3+ years of hands-on experience in tool room activities related to injection moulding.
Experience with high-cavitation, hot runner, and multi-action moulds is preferred.
Working Conditions:
Factory/tool room environment.
May require shift-based work, overtime during breakdowns, and on-call availability.
Physically active role involving lifting, standing, and working with fine tools.
