to lead, plan, and manage the maintenance, repair, and lifecycle of press tools, dies, fixtures, and gauges used in sheet metal component manufacturing. The ideal candidate should have strong technical expertise in tool & die operations and the ability to guide a team of toolmakers effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise daily operations in the tool room and allocate work to toolmakers.
Oversee preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of tools, dies, and fixtures.
Plan tool availability to support uninterrupted production schedules.
Review tool drawings, diagnose tool failures, and implement corrective actions.
Ensure timely tool trials, die spotting, fitting, polishing, and adjustments.
Maintain documentation for tool history, maintenance logs, and dimensional reports.
Coordinate with Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams for tool-related issues.
Ensure proper storage, handling, and traceability of all tools and spares.
Implement improvements to enhance tool life, reduce downtime, and minimize rework.
Drive 5S, safety compliance, and continuous improvement initiatives in the tool room.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong hands-on knowledge of press tools, progressive dies, compound dies, welding fixtures, and gauges.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
Expertise in die maintenance, sheet metal forming behavior, and problem diagnosis.
Familiarity with measuring instruments (Vernier, micrometer, height gauge, dial indicators).
Leadership and team management skills.
Basic knowledge of CNC wirecut, VMC, and tool room machines is an added advantage.
Qualification & Experience:
Diploma / ITI in Tool & Die, Mechanical, Fitter, or related trade.
2-5 years of experience in tool room operations, including at least 1 years in a supervisory role in automotive sheet metal industry.
