Inspect tools, dies, molds, jigs, and fixtures for dimensional accuracy and surface finish as per approved drawings and specifications.
Use precision measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, dial indicators, profile projectors, and CMM (if applicable).
Verify that tools meet tolerance and quality standards before release to production.
Conduct in-process and final inspection of tools during manufacturing, maintenance, or reconditioning.
Record and document inspection results as per company QMS and ISO 13485/GMP standards.
2. Calibration & Measurement
Ensure all measuring instruments and gauges are calibrated and valid for use.
Coordinate with internal/external calibration service providers.
Maintain and update calibration logs and ensure traceability of all measuring equipment.
3. Tool Maintenance & Condition Monitoring
Inspect molds, dies, and cutting tools regularly to detect wear or damage.
Report abnormalities and assist the Tool Room Engineer in corrective actions.
Support preventive and predictive maintenance activities for critical tooling.
4. Documentation & Compliance
Maintain inspection records, rejection reports, and tool history sheets.
Comply with company's Quality Management System (QMS) and relevant standards (ISO 13485, ISO 9001.).
Support internal/external audits by presenting inspection documentation and traceability reports.
5. Continuous Improvement
Suggest improvements in tool design and inspection methods.
Provide feedback to toolmakers and design engineers for quality enhancement.
Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective/Preventive Actions (CAPA) for tool-related issues.
6. Safety & Housekeeping
Follow all safety protocols while handling precision instruments, tools, and heavy components.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe inspection area.
Ensure proper storage and handling of tools and instruments to avoid damage or contamination.
Qualifications & Skills
Education:
Diploma / ITI in Tool & Die Making / Mechanical Engineering / Plastic Engineer or equivalent.
Experience:
2-5 years of experience in tool room inspection or precision manufacturing (medical devices, plastic injection molding, or similar).
Technical Skills:
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings (knowledge of GD&T preferred).
Proficient in using precision measuring instruments and inspection tools.
Familiarity with CAD drawings, MS Excel, and ERP data entry.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Accuracy of inspection reports and documentation.
Reduction in tool-related rework or defects.
Timely completion of inspections and calibration compliance.
Positive audit outcomes related to Tool Room processes.
