Lead and manage overall Tool Room operations, ensuring availability and maintenance of tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures for smooth production.
Oversee tool design, development, modification, and preventive/breakdown maintenance of dies and fixtures.
Ensure effective utilization of Tool Room machinery (lathe, milling, surface & cylindrical grinding, EDM, wire cut, CNC, etc.).
Plan and monitor tool trials, new tool development, and ensure timely completion of tooling projects as per production requirements.
Implement tool life monitoring, calibration of gauges/instruments, and ensure adherence to dimensional accuracy using Vernier, Micrometer, Height Gauge, Profile Projector, CMM, etc.
Ensure compliance with safety standards and maintain a clean, organized Tool Room under 5S principles.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives (Kaizen, 5S, SMED, 3M, Waste reduction) in tooling activities.
Coordinate with Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams for tool-related troubleshooting and process improvements.
Monitor tool inventory, spare parts, and consumables through SAP/ERP and ensure optimum stock levels.
Prepare and manage Tool Room budget, cost reduction initiatives, and OEE/MTTR/MTBF analysis for tools and dies.
Train, mentor, and manage Tool Room manpower for skill enhancement and effective shift operations.
Required Skills & Knowledge:
Strong knowledge of tool & die design, press tools, progressive/transfer dies, jigs & fixtures.
Hands-on experience with Tool Room machines and advanced tooling technologies.
Good understanding of GD&T, engineering drawings, and quality inspection methods.
Knowledge of raw material specifications for tool making and machining processes.
Familiarity with SAP/ERP systems for tool management and reporting.
Leadership skills with proven experience in manpower handling and cross-functional coordination.
Qualifications & Experience:
Diploma / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or Tool & Die Making.
Minimum 8-12 years of experience in Tool Room operations, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role.
Experience in automotive / fastener / engineering manufacturing/sheet metal industry preferred.
