Job Description

1. Tool and Cutter Preparation

Set up and operate manual tool and cutter grinding machines (e.g., cylindrical grinders, surface grinders, tool grinders).

Sharpen, grind, and recondition cutting tools such as drills, end mills, reamers, taps, and lathe tools.

Select appropriate grinding wheels, attachments, and speeds for specific materials and tool types.

2. Machine Setup and Operation

Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, or sketches to determine grinding specifications.

Mount and balance grinding wheels; align and secure workpieces properly.

Operate machines safely to achieve precise tool geometry, edge finish, and dimensional accuracy.

3. Measurement and Quality Control

Inspect finished tools using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and optical comparators to ensure conformance to specifications.

Maintain tolerance and surface finish requirements as per company or customer standards.

Identify worn or damaged tools and decide whether repair or replacement is required.

4. Maintenance and Housekeeping

Perform routine maintenance on grinders and related equipment (lubrication, wheel dressing, cleaning).

Keep work area organized and free of hazards.

Monitor condition of tools, wheels, and fixtures to prevent machine damage or defects.
