Job Description


This position is for a test engineer who will perform test on Ovation Digital Twin Simulator and its tools which represent mathematical models of plant equipment for power generation plant simulators This resource would leverage his power plant expertise, process knowledge, thermodynamic, fluid dynamic, and high-fidelity simulator knowledge to test this simulator using the Ovation Digital Twin algorithms The successful candidate will work as part of a global development team This Ovation Digital Twin Simulator consist of all types of fossil power plants; sub-critical and super-critical pulverized coal, simple and combined cycle, CFB as well as aspects of nuclear plants, hydro plants, renewables (eg wind, solar, geothermal, etc) and electrical systems/grid effects The Ovation Digital Twin Simulator environment is integral to the Ovation distributed control system This Ovation Digital Twin Simulator is used for operator training, engineering analysis/design/testing The models themselves will consist of the differential/algebraic equations that describe the steady-state, transient and startup/cold conditions of the equipment being modeled The candidate is expected to have extensive knowledge of power plant systems and controls design with in-depth experience in power plant operation The successful candidate should have knowledge of process simulation and software testing methods ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop test plans to validate Ovation Digital Twin Simulator application and its tool against design specification. Prepare & tune model control sheets for boiler, balance of plant, main steam, steam turbine, generator, & electrical Develop and execute new test scenarios for upcoming Ovation Digital Twin releases required by the development team. Validate the software discrepancies that have been fixed for upcoming software builds. Establish test acceptance criteria for algorithm tests based on algorithm requirements. Perform testing of Ovation Digital Twin algorithms Review test artifacts for algorithms & user documentation for accuracy and usability Write reports to document deficiencies found during testing. Collaborate with global software development and testing teams to successfully test Ovation Digital Twin and its tools. Design and develop (new or modified) test automation solutions that meet the business needs. Actively participate in the software reviews from the software quality and testability perspective EDUCATION Minimum Bachelor s degree in Mechanical engineering or the equivalent. An additional Software Testing certification will be a plus. 3- 4 years experience with at least 2 years in power plant operation, control, and simulation roles In-depth knowledge of power plant systems and equipment design and operation REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/ KNOWLEDGE Knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, electrical, and mechanical systems Knowledge of control theory and/or power plant control experience Experience performing detailed heat and mass balance calculations. Experience performing combustion calculations. Knowledge on software development life cycle (SDLC) Knowledge of PCs and Windows operating system Excellent English written and verbal skills. Other Advantages: Experience with DCS applications - particularly Emerson Ovation Experience performing stoichiometry calculations for various chemical reactions (for example fuel combustion)
