Role Overview: The Solaris Administrator will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing Solaris environments in both production and non-production setups. The role involves day-to-day system administration, performance tuning, patching, user and security management, and coordination with application, storage, and network teams to ensure high system availability and stability. Key Responsibilities: Perform installation, configuration, and administration of Solaris on SPARC. Manage user accounts, file systems, NFS, and ZFS configurations. Handle system patching, kernel upgrades, and firmware maintenance. Monitor system performance and resource utilization, identifying and resolving bottlenecks. Administer zones, LDOMs, and virtualization environments. Perform root cause analysis for incidents and contribute to problem management. Coordinate with cross-functional teams (Network, Storage, Application, DBA) for issue resolution. Ensure compliance with IT security and change management policies. Support disaster recovery activities, system migrations, and automation initiatives. Maintain system documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and change records. Technical Skills Required: Strong hands-on experience with Solaris 10/11 administration. Knowledge of ZFS, Zones, LDOMs, and SMF (Service Management Facility). Experience in patch management, jumpstart/AI provisioning, and firmware upgrades. Familiarity with Veritas Volume Manager / Cluster (VCS) preferred. Good understanding of TCP/IP networking, DNS, NTP, and routing basics. Experience with backup tools (NetBackup, TSM, or similar). Scripting skills in Shell, Perl, or Python for automation.
