Job Description

Axelerant is building on its culture of strong engineering delivery by strengthening our documentation practices to be led by you. Software, after all, is used and maintained by human beings. We believe documentation is an often left-out foundational part of the engineering process, and you'll help us do it well.

As an experienced technical writer, you will be responsible for the documentation efforts produced by Axelerant through a variety of activities. They are typically grouped in three areas.

• Documentation for projects that we deliver to our customers.
• The internal Engineering Handbook and other resources.
• Articles and other media are shared with the community.

We are looking for people who have software engineering experience and are interested in the art of writing well. We have outlined the responsibilities and requirements below but these are indicative.

We understand that people have varied backgrounds and we'd like you to apply even when you don't feel you meet all the requirements. As we build out this practice and role, we are looking to craft your day-to-day responsibilities collaboratively.

Responsibilities

We will collaborate on building the list of detailed responsibilities with you along with its priorities. Treat this as indicative of the work you would do at Axelerant.

• Write clear documentation targeting multiple personas and supplement it with diagrams and other assets as may be relevant.
• Interact with team members working on various projects and collaboratively write and help write the project documentation.
• Establish documentation standards and ensure compliance by all project teams.
• Understand the processes used by various teams and document them.
• Build and maintain the Axelerant Engineering Handbook to ensure it is usable, detailed, and covers the topics we deal with in every project.
• Write technical blog pieces based on our learnings and support the team members who want to write such blogs.
• Determine a suitable structure for the knowledge base to enable sharing of knowledge on a regular and frequent basis.

Who you might be

• 3+ years of software engineering experience.
• 6+ years of experience working in the software industry in any role.
• Relevant technical writing experience. E.g., blogs, product documentation, user manuals, etc.
• Ability to clearly convey technical information to relevant audiences.
• Experience with diagraming tools such as mermaid, PlantUML, etc.
• Experience working with large teams in an agency environment.
• Experience with writing documentation for content management systems or their subsystems, especially Drupal.
• Experience working with engineering to improve documentation or product assets.
• Ability to work in different domains and quickly understand the technology used in those areas.

Special Considerations

All of Axelerant's roles are considered work from anywhere. But, we're mainly looking to build our teams around Africa, Latin America, and Southeast Asia unless specified otherwise. And, we typically expect people to have a two-hour crossover with 11 AM to 7 PM India (UTC+05:30) each workday for meetings and coaching. Further, our salaries are India-based with regional factoring, though some overrides exist.
