Position Title: Technical Writer

Experience: 3-6 yrs

Position Purpose:

Under the direction of a project manager and development team (who may be remote) assist in the development of product operation, service and instruction type manuals, as well as the improvement and maintenance of existing product literature.

Principal Responsibilities:

Create and update various product technical manuals to include operating manuals and instruction manuals for a variety of products, options and accessories.

Write, proof read, review, edit, publish, and distribute final publication to standard formats. Update and maintain these and other documents over the life cycle of the product offering.

Mentor junior Technical Writers at the request of Project and Product Managers. Review, edit, proof read documents for content and format compliance.

Take raw information from engineering and marketing, expand where necessary, to produce coherent and well-organized product technical manuals.

Be able to generate graphic illustrations required for technical manuals using 3D modeling software.

Interact with various other departments to ensure compliance, accuracy and comprehensibility of information using review cycles.

Respond to internal customer documentation needs.

Perform other duties as required.

Knowledge/Skill Needs:

Required:

Associates degree in English, Journalism or Technical Communications

Demonstrated experience as technical writer.

Demonstrated desktop publishing skills.

Software experience using Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat, Dita, and PhotoShop in the PC environment.

Possess good oral and written communication skills and interpersonal and compositional skills enabling effective interface with other individuals at all levels.

Excellent sense of flow and relevance in writing with demonstrated ability to write clear, concise, easy-to-understand instructions. Demonstrated ability to take writing project from concept to finish.

Work with minimum supervision while maintaining high level of productivity.

Ability to operate and complete multiple concurrent projects.

Well organized and able to independently manage multiple projects.

Technical experience in one or more of the following journalism, technical communications, technical service, desktop publishing, product data management, welding and or cutting processes.

Desired:

General background in Manufacturing, Service or Tech Services environment.

XML language experience, (InDesign IDML or XML)

Relevant illustration software skills(Adobe CC)/translation skills

Quality Requirements:

Familiarity with quality system documentation related to the position and maintaining all quality standards.

Safety Requirements:

Follow safe work practices which include - knowing the potential hazards of the job, learning safety practices for the job and following them; complying with all safety rules and using the safety devices and personal protective equipment required on the job; and correcting or reporting all safety, health and fire hazards promptly.
