Purpose of Role:
To lead the technical standardization and optimization of pump set assemblies across all Weir Group regions by evaluating regional design variations and developing a unified, cost-effective, and safety-compliant global solution. This includes harmonizing the design of key components such as motors, pulleys, belts, taper bushes, base plates, motor supports, and drive guards in alignment with global safety standards, legal requirements, and material specifications.
The role requires good understanding in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to validate structural integrity, optimize performance, and support weight and cost reduction initiatives. The Technical Lead will also drive Value Analysis and Value Engineering (VAVE) efforts to ensure design efficiency and cost-effectiveness and applying strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and product cost optimization.
This position demands end-to-end project leadership, including design sign-off responsibility and cross-functional collaboration with Sales, Operations (Planning, Manufacturing, Purchasing and Supply Chain), and Engineering teams at both regional and global levels, with a proven track record of delivering measurable cost savings and design enhancements across complex, large-scale engineering projects. The role ensures that all technical, commercial, and operational aspects are addressed to deliver scalable, standardized, and high-performance product solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to Weir's zero-harm behaviours in support of the drive towards developing a world-class safety culture. Evaluate and compare regional pump set designs to develop a unified global standard. Lead the design and validation of structural components using Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Drive Value Analysis and Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives to reduce cost and improve design efficiency. Oversee design sign-off processes, ensuring alignment with technical, commercial, and operational requirements. Collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Planning, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing teams at both regional and global levels. Ensure compliance with safety regulations, legal standards, and material availability. Identify and implement opportunities for weight reduction, cost optimization, and design improvement. Provide technical guidance within a specific area or field of expertise in Mining and Mineral processing and or other mechanical engineering domains. Solve complex engineering and technical problems in his domain of expertise. Determining project requirements and developing work schedules for the team. Delegating tasks and achieving daily, weekly, and monthly goals. Liaising with team members, management, and customers to ensure projects are completed to standard. Identifying project risks and forming contingency plans as soon as possible. Support the competency development of the team Updating work schedules and performing troubleshooting as required. Writing progress reports and delivering presentations to the relevant stakeholders. Work with BU's to understand customer problems and translate them to develop technical solutions.


Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

B.E. in Mechanical Engineering or related field with a minimum of 15 years' experience.

ExperienceProven experience in FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, Nastran) for structural validation. Strong background in VAVE methodologies with a track record of delivering measurable cost savings. Hands-on experience with should costing tools (e.g., aPriori or equivalent). Knowledge of manufacturing processes, especially for fabricated and structural components. Experience leading cross-functional, global engineering projects. Familiarity with product lifecycle management (PLM) and design sign-off protocols. Certification in SAVE/INVEST methodologies (preferred).

More than 3 years of experience in project management and team management.

Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices. Strong Technical knowledge in a particular domain or product like pumps/cyclones / valves and other weir products and systems, or engineering domains Managed teams across multiple BU's Should have managed multiple projects simultaneously. Proficiency in engineering software and tools. Knowledge of industry standards and regulations. Strong analytical and decision-making skills. Mentoring and talent development experience Good understanding of the mining business and market Proficiency with various Weir I.T. systems e.g. Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teamcenter, Citrix, is assumed and required for this role.
