Booking Holdings is currently undergoing a Finance Transformation initiative that will drive effective finance/accounting support for business management; promote strong governance and control in the organization; and have a world-class finance organization in terms of execution and efficiency.



We are looking for an Accounting Team Lead to help us organize and manage a growing portfolio of small and large initiatives that need to be executed on time and with great quality, solid experience within Finance and Accounting is required. As an Accounting Team Lead supporting the FinTech Accounting team in Amsterdam, you will join our Center of Excellence Team in Bangalore. You will be representing accounting in the testing of new business initiatives where Booking.com is involved in the funds flow between customers and our partners. You will lead the FinTech accounting team in the COE in Bangalore, overseeing approximately 5+ FTEs. You will report to the Corporate Finance Manager in the CoE. You will be working closely with the Controller in the FinTech Accounting Team located in Amsterdam and work closely with other departments in our Amsterdam office. The tasks and duties of this role may evolve over time.You will be keen to develop and grow within the role and to take on additional challenges and responsibilities as they occur.

Your goal is to structure, plan, coordinate, and enable an Accounting team in the Center of Excellence in Bangalore to execute financial close tasks and to test new initiatives, while keeping the overall objectives & success in sight. We seek a strong people manager who will take full ownership and accountability for responsibilities within the COE Accounting team's scope.



Tasks & Responsibilities:



FinTech Projects:

Work closely with the FinTech Accounting team and Project team in Amsterdam to test new products and initiatives to be used in the monthly closing process. Support the team to test new business initiatives. Provide and communicate to the FinTech Accounting Team the results of the testing, identified errors and the required changes/improvements on the tested financial reporting and processes in order to ensure completeness & accuracy of accounts is maintained for new initiatives. Help identify areas to improve standardization and creation of global processes, automation and simplification of tasks. Identify, initiate, prioritize and follow-up all tasks and responsibilities of the FinTech Accounting team in Bangalore COE which directly impact daily activities of the team in Amsterdam.


Team management:

Work with various stakeholders to transition various accounting & GL processes Manage and coach a team of GL and Sr GL Accountants, support and monitor their tasks and projects, review specific areas and take ownership over the team performance. Maintain a team structure which can cope with increase in organization complexity and growth, invest in development of team members and continuity, i.e. succession planning. Implement the right workload allocation to organize & bring structure to ongoing and future responsibilities Contribute to recruitment for finance and accounting. Assess performance, provide feedback, and manage workload of the team. Understand milestones and impediments. Tracks and report progress, optimize work allocation through structured planning, manages overall timelines, quality of work, risks & issues & monitor and report any issues and challenges Organized, with a natural inclination for planning, and capable of responding to change End responsible for the timely delivery of all activities within COE Accounting team's scope including but not limited to below

+ Complete the monthly closing process, including preparation of journal entries, accruals, reconciliation of general ledger accounts, detailed supporting analysis and relevant documentation.
+ Perform clearing of GL suspense & cash in transit accounts within SAP.
+ Review and perform variance analysis on balance sheet and profit and loss accounts during the closing procedures.
+ Perform detailed analysis and checks of the ledgers to ensure financial records are complete and accurate.
+ Perform a high quality self-review on own tasks & ensure completeness of the task in accordance with the month-end close and reconciliation deadlines
+ Uses their past experience and seeks for help in complex scenarios to translate business problems into data driven insights.
+ Leverages available big data platforms to run root cause analysis, data reconciliations and shares the insights with the business team.
+ Maintains and drives key reports, metrics and workflows running within their scope
+ Is able to communicate results and outcomes clearly to stakeholders based on their knowledge and experience.
+ Actively participates in business and/or analytics team activities and suggests ways of achieving objectives



Closing process:

Review monthly closing reports, manual journal entries and reconciliations in accordance with US GAAP and the SOX framework, ensure the deadlines are met for financial close activities. Review and perform variance analysis on balance sheet and profit and loss accounts during the closing procedures. Work closely with the FinTech Accounting team in Amsterdam to ensure that the organization is compliant with the local regulations. Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent organizational agility and able to meet tight deadlines and prioritize

Required Education, Qualifications, & Experience

Approx 8-12 years' experience in finance and/or accounting preferably within a multinational company (FinTech/Online Payments Accounting knowledge is beneficial) University (Accounting, Business, Economic) degree and/or postgraduate education (CPA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) Sound knowledge of US GAAP/IFRS Strong IT experience in financial systems, including SAP, is preferable Experience in supervising and reviewing tests performed on new initiatives and products is beneficial Experience with big data is preferable Enthusiasm to work in a fast paced, highly diverse, continuous developing and high achieving environment High levels of personal effectiveness, particularly communication, stakeholder & project management and the ability to focus on achieving project and financial close deadlines Strong experience building, hiring, managing teams, coaching, and providing training on the job Proven ability to persuade and influence in effecting changes within an organization Experience in working with Product, Business Intelligence/Data teams is beneficial Detail-oriented and result-driven Capable of working independently as well as working in a team Takes ownership for responsibilities with a positive attitude Strong work ethic Fluent in spoken and written English
